14 Sep, 2010

what a lovely combination

15 Sep, 2010

Thank you. It worked! :-)))

15 Sep, 2010

is the artemisia a hardy one?

16 Sep, 2010

Yes indeed. In the island bed, it's turned out to be a right thug! I had to dig out trugloads of roots, and I've kept it clipped back this year too, because the plants grew and grew and when the 'flowers' appeared, they were boring greyish. This one in the photo is behaving itself, though - probably because the soil wasn't enriched.

Stunning! A gorgeous combo.

16 Sep, 2010

Thanks - I like it too! :-)))))

16 Sep, 2010

thanks for that

17 Sep, 2010

Is it a plant you might consider, then, G?

17 Sep, 2010

yes I think I might B, have to look for a space for it LOL

19 Sep, 2010

Wait until the spring, and I'll try to get a root out into a pot in the meantime. Let's see if it'll grow for us! :-))

19 Sep, 2010

that's nice of you :-))

20 Sep, 2010

No probs. If you were able to come again in June, I might even have it tucked away for you! LOL. (hint, hint!)

20 Sep, 2010

Ive been tempted with EC Buxton since I saw it at Newby Hall a few years back, but read somewhere its not very hardy. Any comments anyone?

20 Sep, 2010

Tough as old boots here, Tetrarch! You can't be very far away from me, so don't worry - go for it, you'll love it. :-)

20 Sep, 2010

Dont need any more encouragement then..even my hubby remembers me mentioning this..must have said it a lot..cos he forgets most things!

20 Sep, 2010

If you have space, (!) try 'Sauce Hollandaise' as well - I can never decide which one I prefer. They've both been flowering their socks off since early June! :-)

20 Sep, 2010

mine is still flowering away love it

20 Sep, 2010

They're very good plants, aren't they!

20 Sep, 2010

only got it this year, it grew huge so am going to move it higer up the bank but its bin so lovely , is it hardy do i cut it down ?

20 Sep, 2010

Yes - when all the flowers have finished, cut all the dead stems down to where you'll see new growth at the base. I'm going to split mine this year, and pot some up for my plant stall. I did last year, and they all got sold fast!

20 Sep, 2010

ok so you can split it as well. can i move it now and split it

20 Sep, 2010

wouldn't miss it B ;-)

21 Sep, 2010

That's good, G. :-)))

Cristina - if you can get a piece off a large clump, why not pot it up - or even replant it if there are enough roots?

21 Sep, 2010

Put my name on one Spritz I promise I will buy it next year!

21 Sep, 2010

will try that as was going to get more. love free plants lol

21 Sep, 2010

LOL. OK, Tetrarch! Good luck, Cristina.

Just been browsing through your lovely pics,Spritz. Can you tell me if this Anthemis, and the 'Sauce Hollandaise'has come through this winter ok,please?.I started off looking at Dictamnus, the purple leaved one,as couldn't see it on any other members pics, and I was thinking of buying one this year,...and one thing led to another ....after seeing so many of your lovely plants..back to 2008 ..I feel a makeover coming on,for my long border...ideally though,I just really need another long border, shame I have no way of getting one..:o))

just seen this again ................. i did split it last year ,got 4 plants and they all have new groth on them ;0))))

27 Jan, 2011

That sounds promising ,Cristina..

27 Jan, 2011

it does ........... so helpful to split again in autumn

27 Jan, 2011

Yes, Bloomer - I do have two different Anthemis, and they're both hardy. I also grow Dictamnus purpureus and D. albus. They both came through last winter so I'm hoping that they'll reappear this year. They're lovely plants - I'd like some more. :-)

I grew Baptisia australis for the first time last year - and also Galega. I've got my fingers crossed for them, too.

27 Jan, 2011

Thank you,Spritz,I like them both,so will look out for them, and I fancy the Dictamus purpureus too.I want to plant it between a Euonymus Silver Queen, and a Pieris Forest Flame, thought it would be a nice contrast... sometimes it seems a bit boring to have all green foliage..could you tell me approx, the height and width it could grow, please?.I have been getting different info on it,when I have looked on the net,and in my books..I hope your two other new plants from last year, have survived,as well. :o)

27 Jan, 2011

galega should be fully hardy and I know I have baptissa but cant remember where I have put it.

28 Jan, 2011

Dictamnus - errr...it got to about 2'6" I think. I like both the white and the pink flowers. :-)
