I love all these little shrubs. My cream one is flowering non-stop! :-))

I bought this one the other day Spritz for £2...could you please tell me the best way to overwinter it...I dont know wheather to put it in the ground or not.....thank you

I wouldn't now, Motinot - I don't think it would get well-established enough to get through a cold winter. Try keeping it in under glass (if you can) until spring. Have you got a cold frame or a greenhouse?

It is a sugar pink isn't it. I love it! My purple rains are still giving me colour too!

I do have a small sun-room attached to the house....I'll try that Spritz....thank you very much ...

You're welcome, Motinot.

Karen, mine have a very few last flowers on them, too.

22 Oct, 2010

I nearly chopped them last week but stopped myself in time!

Glad you did. Oh - and I still have a few purple spikes on S. nemorosa, too. :-))))) I've cut most of them back now, though.

22 Oct, 2010

Yes, mine are all finished.

22 Oct, 2010

Oh well. Roll on next year! All the shrubby ones are 'doing their thing'...so that's OK for now!

22 Oct, 2010

Yes, I should get some shrubby ones....perhaps next year!

22 Oct, 2010

They really are worth having. They flower and flower, and seem to come through winters with minimal damage.

22 Oct, 2010

I'll go and look at your garden pages for inspiration! ;)

I like the cream one best - can't think of its name, but it looks wonderful.

I have a red, pink, cerise and cream: all flowering like crazy. I think it are a well kept secret. Brilliant. I will know if they overwinter on clay next Spring!

Oh, I do hope so, Vincent!
The only one that doesn't appeal to me is 'Hot Lips'. I don't like the bi-colour of the flowers, and it's a bit bright to place in my garden.

24 Oct, 2010

It does look the same Spritz, but with only one flower, hard to tell. Best wait for the profusion next year.

25 Oct, 2010

Yes, I'm sure it must be. Let's hope it thrives for you. :-))

Love the pink of 'Icing Sugar' Spritz, and what a brilliant photo . . . what's the secret? I'll have to keep practising I guess. Never heard of a cream Salvia: hope you'll tell us when you remember the name!

Ah-ha, I've started to write a new blog, so you'll see it on there, Sheila.

I haven't got a secret, honestly! My little camera was chosen for its macro facility, and it seems to be successful. :-)))

just nominated this in the sub shrubs as you described it as shrubby. is that ok?

27 Oct, 2010

I did, too...Great minds! LOL. Yes, all the shrubby Salvias need to go there.

Re: grouping these plants, I would definitely put in subshrub as they act like Fuchsia, etc. here; don't know about elsewhere.

Yes, they do, Vincent.
