Cold Mists

That short time in spring and fall as we turn from warm to cold, there are often these mists formed in the lower places, displaced water that isn't sure where to go....lol

Alaska has its four main highways and none else, but they aren't the speedy highways in the lower US. Filled with pox and frost heaves, you can easily be thrown off as easily as hitting a moose that can annihilate a compact car. You can see all the patching we do here even in this little stretch. At the bottom there is at least one moose casualty a year, as the slope tempts everyone to speed up.

Still looks great to me. Corfu has one big road that get's you pretty much everywhere...and it is full or twists and turns. I must admit, I do enjoy my driving.

Thats a lovely photo Gt.

I like driving as well, and I enjoy the challenges of our rough roads here, Alex. :-)
Thank you Cinderella. :-) I miss the green already.

I love driving too, but my goodness, I don't want to fall victim to the pox!! lol ;))

That main highway looks about as busy as our country lanes! Traffic congestion does my head in around here.
Speed Alexandra!!! The way that cop who pulled me just outside Daytona was going on I thought I was going to the "chair" for doing 80!!!

I expect fairly soon you'll have a landscape filled with snow but it does look nice with the mist.
I'd take the roads slowly with pavements heaving from the frost and moose about! Challenging driving!

LOL Meanie.....I played it stupid when I got pulled over....cop: Mam do you know how fast you were going?
Me: um no...(lie) 120km...cop: Show the lady how fast she was going Me: ooops
Well what else can I really say. They still gave me a ticket.

I got off! Only because our American host intervened though - I had my hands up to the "crime" already!!
That was in '96. In the last ten years the UK has become as bad - the car driver is persecuted over here now...

Lucky you....I'm making sure they don't catch me again. They are a little on the slack side this year...makes me wonder.

Love the feeling of space here Gt....even though the mist pockets must be a devil to drive in...you can see where they are, and should keep the speed down, which helps the wildlife.

LOL! Thanks for the comments all.
Karen, lol, the pox are the worst. Deep ice driven holes in the pavement. At least you learn here they are and can stay out of them. :-)
Meanie, this road is very congested sometimes. It is the only access to town for 60 mile of residence, so imagine 8am traffic. Its horrible, especially in condition like this. This is between then and the school rush at 9. I've had the anger police experience from speeding, but here, there are far too few state police to even see them. I see a trooper 2-3 times a year on this road. Great story. :-)
Whist, we are white and frozen already, high today -16C. Lovely but cold. The added challenge of ice patches, I take it relatively safe. I have that bad habit of knowing the road so well, its hard to keep focused on my driving.
Alex, it sounds like your wiles worked very well. :-)
Janey, it is a great view from the top of this hill were my lane starts. You can really see what a hill town Fairbanks is, the far hill has the next town at its base, Ester. This kind of condition is all that keeps us conscientious as drivers. It'll be ice fog in the winter, that's the real devil. There is a stream right in that mist so there is always a moose, a frightening area there.

At minus 16 I'd give up the will to live Greenthumb!!

Lol! Thats my cat Bianca, whining and wandering the house. I love how dry and fresh it gets with the cold. Only 5 weeks and the sun will start to return. Its been an easy one so far.

How low can it go?
11 Nov, 2010
This is very warm. A cold spell in January or February can be highs of just -35C. Low nights can be -50C. I would be surprised to see anything that cold this year, it has been soooo warm. But you never can tell. That cold coupled with an early thaw and another freeze is what is really hard on plant survival.

Stuff the plants survival Greenthumb - it's the Meanie survival that I'd be concerned about!!
That is inhuman!
I admire your fortitude!

:-) Don't think I'm standing out there or anything.....lol.

It's a lovely view. We are looking forward to seeing your beautiful Alaska next May when we visit friends in Anchorage.

Thank you. Thats very exciting Chris. They should be in spring bloom when you are here then. And the mosquitos will not have really got going yet. Great news. :-)

Glad to hear about the mosquitos. I will be able to post Alaska pics next year too.
