This little junco that has spent summer growing up here, seems unsure what to do now the temp has dropped. Spent the day poofed up and determined not to abandon the seed table. :-)

:-) They fly south for the winter. This little one must have missed the family leaving, but it and all other juncos were gone just a few days later. He must have met another bunch.

Phew, what a relief for him to get away south!

Definitely, from the look of him. :-) Usually just chickadees that stay around, but I just caught a downy woodpecker at the table. They must stay too. I couldn't get a shot, they are very shy.

I am glad the little junco got away before it got too cold. He sure did have his feathers fluffed up against the cold and I bet he was glad of your bird food.

They don't seem to go too far south GT. We have Junkos all winter long here.

I like to say chickadee, it is the sound they make...chick-a-dee-dee-dee. :-)
Whist, you could tell he was a youngster not knowing what to do. As it grew up at this table, he clung to it all day like a safety net, all puffed. Lol. Adorable!
Interesting, Gilli. I must be just a tiny bit too cold. The warm coastal areas don't have them all winter, so I thought they were one of the long travelers. But it seems more like they just prefer to live inland.

I looked on the Cornell bird range map. It looks like they are year round residents only in the lower third of BC and then further south into Washington and Oregon.
