I'm starting to plan a new garden in a much cooler zone than I am now in (5b). The new garden will be in zone 3, so some of the lovely grasses, heathers and shrubs may not survive there...I'm wondering if you have any suggestions as to the hardiest of the hardy for my northern garden?

Perhaps Greenfingers would be the one to ask Lori? Not that I'm saying Bluespruce wouldn't have any great ideas mind!! lol! .....ooops! ;))

Lori, zone 3!! that's cold!....no chance with any heathers, and some of the ornamental grasses are rated zone 4-6 at best, although you may try and push the boundaries with cultivars of Panicum virgatum and one or two of the Miscanthus sinensis, which are well represented in my garden...good luck though, I think you may need it!

Thanks Bluespruce! I expected that reply but you've given me some hope! I have seeds for the pampas grass which grows here. I may have to give up on the perennial and try for annual.....will have to talk to my Santa...I really need a greenhouse.
