...for the recent cake recipe. I made it this morning and, lo and behold, we have an alternative to the usual Christmas cake. Quick and simple :)

Of course you can, TT, it looks as if its about to slide down the side any minute! A meal out sounds good, PP, I've been cooking most of the day so just had fish & chips with my youngest grandson :)

Yummy Gee........enjoy! :o)

It's a very adaptable recipe - I left out the nuts and cherries (not liked by my family) but added more raisins and sultanas. As Sticki said, it is a large cake :)

Yum Yum, enjoy!! We can all go on a diet in the new year. Lol.x
25 Dec, 2010

looks a very lovely cake gee ~ has it all gone now?
i will join in GM ~ id like a medal!!! ~ do they give them for clearing snow or for doing and all the cooking or all the washing up????
28 Dec, 2010
Sticki, think we could start a new catergory !? Think we all deserve medals, that did make me laugh. Lol.

yes excellent idea!
being british there were some very sarcy ideas for events suggested at the time that were very amusing but not repeatable.
now what can i think of?
higher faster furthest are the criteria:
highest price in the sales?
fastest queue in the supermarket
furthest train for cheapest ticket????

28 Apr, 2012
oh, thanks Gee, im really glad you like it!
28 Apr, 2012
It's o.k Sticki thanks I found it in the recipe pages , I was going to make it today but then was side-tracked by other things ,I made a Bakewell tart and a custard tart instead, I'm afraid it will be another day before I make it now, we are going away for a few days on Thursday so I don't want to leave to much in the cupboard .. It must be good if it's a family favourite Gill have a nice day with your family on Monday :o))

bakewell tart sounds really lovely! eaten plenty but im not sure i have made one of those, i also like custard tarts, bit trickier to make!!
29 Apr, 2012
My baking was bypassed today, too, all I've done is make a trifle. The cake will be done tomorrow morning hopefully. Hope you enjoy your time away, Amy :)

i have another recipe if you like, this one is 'sultana slab' i make it quite a lot mainly because my youngest son and OH particularly like it ~ its a fruity and moist cake.
29 Apr, 2012
Have you put the sultana slab on before, Sticki, because I have a recipe called that. I wonder if it's the same, it contains 2 tsp almond essence.
29 Apr, 2012
i might well have done, its one i know i can rely on, just taken one of them out of the oven and yes it has almond or maybe vanilla essence in it. you boil the sultanas then melt the butter in the warm drained sultanas.??
29 Apr, 2012
That's the one, Sticki, yummy :)
29 Apr, 2012
it is!! might even put some in the post for youngest son!!
29 Apr, 2012
My local family come to me for a meal most Monday evenings. I always bake something for them to take home to last the rest of the week :)
29 Apr, 2012
