Yellow fungi

Really shows up in the woods, only seen it in two places. I think it may be Witch butter but not at all certain.

Gee , I have to tell you that you inspired me to get my walking boots on this afternoon to have a wander through a local wood and guess what I found almost at once , i'm so pleased you put a photo on or I might not have been looking for it , I will put a photo on for you to compare ;o)

Hi Gee, this is Yellow Brain (Tremella mesenterica) AKA Witches Butter, as you say. It's an interesting species because although it occurs on the dead wood of deciduous trees it actually feeds on (and is a parasite of) another fungus rather than feeding on the dead wood directly itself.

I prefer the name Witches Butter rather than yellow brain, Ilex! Interesting to see it though, the result, I think, of the very wet weather we've had.
