Beech Hedge - For Doctor Bob

thats going to look lovely dawn when it fills out, i love the leaves even in winter ;o)

The hedge looks great, Dawn and I love all the contrasting shapes and textures in the photo. Sounds an odd thing to say but I think it's a very warm looking winter photo :)

That is doing well....I love beech hedges....there are some massive ones in Angus...really old. I love this whole photo DA..it really looks like it could soon be spring! I went out today without my coat and was fine....nice and warm with just my jersey on!

There's something about a beech hedge Dawn , I don't know what it is perhaps it's signifies age maturity , you know like " I've been here for a long time so you must respect me " yours is going to look fantastic ... you will always look at it with pride thinking , "I did that " x

My friend, next door but one, has a beech hedge. Planted it about this size and now it is about 5' after five years. Lovely and thick too. They haven't pruned or trimmed it yet, and it looks beautiful and even. I think it's a very 'country' thing to have a beech hedge. I love it! btw, they have snowdrops under the hedge, wonderful!

Karen: Yes, a bit more Spring like here at the moment :-) Beech is country-fied isnt it. I trimmed the ends of this in August, you have to be careful when to prune so as not to lose the lovely, crisp, brown leaves for Winter interest. I've got some minature daffs set under this.

Hi Janey, we dont want to let it grow very high as it will spoil my view of the pond from the house.

Amy: I've always wanted beech hedging, like you say, as does Bob, something heritage about it, love it.

The beech hedge keeps it's leaves in the winter and is a refuge for the birds. Sparrows will like it. The garden will benefit from it when it gets bigger as it will protect the garden from the winds. Lovely to have a garden big enough for it.

Hi Linda. I hope the birds enjoy the hedge in time, it would be nice to have some sparrows. Established beech hedges are so intricate, I find them fascinating.
