Thank you Pansypotter, and most of what you see is only about 8-9 years old! It's so encouraging when plants give such a mature look after such a short time!

Hello again Skipscanda! Glad you like the shrubs and trees, the slope is a strange one...it's wetter at the top of the slope than the bottom, we think there's an underground spring running across the higher part of the garden, which keeps it very damp, and although it's odd, it does make for, as you so rightly put it, 'challenging' planting!

I love your shrub garden Is that a santolina? I had one on my other allotment as we do not get enough sun in our garden and it grew that big and covered everything else i ended up digging it out.

Hello Rose 1949! I think the plant you're looking at is a weeping pear, Pyrus salicifolia. It's hard to see the scale of plants in photos, but I can walk up the path underneath its canopy! And although it's grey leaved, it is on the shady side of the garden and doesn't seem to mind!
