coot nesting on boat moorings at riversway preston

went shopping then sat watching the river at preston while eating a mcdonalds lol, saw this coot nesting on one of the boat moorings, she was the only one there.hope she is ok and no-one disturbs her.

Hope she manages to hatch them..have you ever seen baby coots ? They are so funny..not pretty, but very cute! :)

thanx guys im sure she will be ok as all the boats were moored at the far end, no boats near her, not heard that song carole lol before my time i thinks hahaa
not seen the babys judy, maybe i will get chance if i get to preston again in the next couple of weeks :o))

your right amy but only can get to these if on a boat, so hopefull it will be fine, i think there is a harbour keeper there to.

we get them nesting on the big pond, they are not really good parents as they often leave the nest bare and prey to the crows and when the babies are running around ( and no they are not really pretty!!) and the parents take fright they go headlong into the bushes leaving babies to fend for themselves but they usually manage to rear one or two from each clutch-- water hens is a really good description.......

fascinating to watch them in the garden-- the adults, sometimes with a 'teenager' from the first brood-- take them for walks in the field running back to the young all the time with small insects-- even the teenager helps, they only use the island on the pond or the reeds for safety at night I think

i love to watch all animals and birds at their dailey tasks Pam, so interesting and sometimes funny, nature can be cruel but wonderful to :o)

This time of year is lovely seeing the birds on their nests then feeding their young. My sister who lives in SUffolk has ducks visit her large garden and they each have about 10 ducklings, but she despairs when the number decreases with the days as different creatures prey on them.

thats so sad linda, dont think i could bare that, i love watching the ducks with ducklings walking along the lane.
