My veggie plot

I am fighting to get enough water on it. We havent had any rain here since February....every container we have that will hold water is laid out along the paths just to catch any rain that may fall........lol

heck no rain since February - that is really bad for you - looks like I am afraid high pressure keeping us settled next week in south - next weekend good weather but no signs of rain. We had a little bit Wednesday - a very little - some tonight but not much

Same here the garden is really suffering now. So much of mine has bolted/set seed with the early heat and drought. I do hope we have some rain soon Milky.

looking very nice, but do you have water butts Milky?

22 May, 2011

Goodness, that is such a lot, Milky, puts me to shame! No rain to speak of here either, empty water butts and I am getting weary of recycling my shower water each morning :(

wow the world is not enough : ( soons runs out doesnt it with a long dry patch. Last year I managed not to use a single drop of tap water but not so this year.

22 May, 2011

It looks well tended Maureen. I hope you get some rain soon. None since February !
:( That's a long time to be with no rain.
We've been having some light showers which made no difference at all. It dried up as soon as it touched the ground. But over the week end we've had lots, and it's blowing a gale. - back to winter lol

23 May, 2011

Its windy here too Hywel....and that doesnt help...it drys out the ground quicker than ever....lol

23 May, 2011

And the hanging baskets :( I have to water them all the time. But yesterday we had a few hours of pouring rain. That's enough now. I want the summer to come back now lol :o)

Milky:

Wow, great vegetable garden! I haven't put my veg. garden in yet. lol! However, we have a 365 day a year growing season... so I'm never in a rush. :>)

24 May, 2011

How wonderful to be that relaxed about it Andy.....We do have veggie varieties that could be sown all year, but I like to rest the plot and give it a good manuring over winter.......

Milky:

Yes, we have winer crops here too...however, eggplant, tomatoes and several others can be grown through winter. The squashes, cucumbers, melons, unfortunately can't be grown in winter, as the days are too short. Also, usually by winter the vegetable garden is usually invaded by so much Bermuda grass (oh, how I hate Bermuda grass!!!) that I have to take almost everything out.

We haven't had any rain either , it's a constant battle against the elements and the Rabbits / Squirrels I sometime think we will stop growing veg but there's nothing like seeing your own grow knowing how fresh it is .. your veg garden is looking great Maureen, it actually looks like rain today , I don't normally wish for it but fingers crossed that we will at least get a shower ......

The wind has been awful, my poor runner beans look dreadful and the surplus tomato plants I set outside have been totally battered

No rain again today, the farmers are pulling their hair out with worry over their crops , it costs £45 per acre to put an inch of water on the land . it's going to be a tough year !
I don't like this wind Dawn it destroys so much in the garden :o(

Its awful Amy. What's happened to our traditional wet Springs.
