Well they certainly are bigger than the farmers Sunflowers around the Vienne....Usually they are the size of Dinner Plates, not so this year with so little rain...Lovely to see them anyway...What region is Jean Pierré ?

jean pierre's sunflower crop isnt anywhere near as abundant as previous years either, actually i cheated and this is last year's picture, but only because he sowed them far too late and we had the only hard shower for one day in that same week, which meant that all his seeds washed away down the slopes, he then didnt plant again till about 20 days ago just before we had another 5 mils of rain and this time they are going great guns but are still very small.
so hopefully we will be surrounded by his sunny fields in a months time.
we are in the heart of Gascony, Armagnac country!
we are having a reprieve today, cooler but getting back to warmer again tomoro
there are times in the summers here when i long for a bit of good old yorkshire weather~!!

Hi Resi...it's been 40 + here, and so little rain...Today we are overcast, and a bit breezy, but I doubt it will amount to anything much....We are surrounded by Sunflower fields, and it's a treat to see them every year, as well as the heads of Wheat, and barley swaying in the breeze, as far as the eye can see....beautiful sight....

They're a beautiful sight when in full bloom...so sad when they start going over, and go black...hang their heads too...but loads of Sunflower seeds in those heads, and watching them being harvested is fun...My neighbour Farmer used to give me a big sack for my Birds...

I went to a restaurant called 'Armagnac' on Friday, owned by a rugby player.

i bet they had duck on the menu, its the absolute local dish.
rugby was invented by the Gascons, thats what they think
yes Cris J.P. usually lets me take what i want, usually in the form of flowers though rather than the seeds.

Not as far as I know, I'm racking my brain to think of the one before, but i'm having a Senior moment lol, I'll have to ask H when he comes home to remind me... :)))
I was a bit hesitant...but it was tender and delicious, in the usual rich sauce...and this little place we go to, it's Family owned, and the Hubby does the cooking...and the Buffet is overflowing with choice....yummy...

No duck! I think he must be a French rugby player? Perhaps he comes from round there? His first name is Olivier Azam. I think the chef was English tho!

Hi Crissue . . . sounds wonderful . . . that's the great thing about France, every eatery, however small, serves great dishes! (I think you live in the Alpes Maritimes?, we visited the Parc de Vercors when we lived in Geneva, many moons ago.) Makes me want to go back . . . I'll PM you.

yes Sticki he is a rugby player and quite a good one apparently, just did a bit of googling, so he should certainly know about the local food from l'Armagnac.
