Persian shield. Annual, but if you take cuttings you can over winter. Tends to get leggy tho.

loves heat and sun. partial shade for this one, gets the evening sun and still needs water. When it's 106 F that's AIR TEMP right now, every thing living needs a drink. PHEW! too hot for Blue to walk 2 tenths of a mile. I just turned around and came to the basement. He doesn't get it that it's cool in here and hot outside. But once he's out.. we don't waste any time doing the tinkle time thing. 8-0

I am nutsy for anything purple in the yard this year, and this one has been a favorite ever since I first saw it. you know how I am about different looking plants, this one caught my eye right away. When it first came out it was about $15.00, it's coming down but not much below $9.99. That is why we try to take cuttings in the fall.

I had this with some dark yellow something small, they didn't do well in the heat. What looks nice with this on the front porch when I put one there is a geranium (pretty but ordinary). I have had the trailing geraniums and like that look. I have had lime sweet potato vines and liked that a lot, and I seem to remember Dan planting a lot of annuals of assorted colors. That looked nice too.

If you could find petunias close to that lighter purple showing in the pix I would imagine that would really pop. But I think you would need a very large pot as the shield tends to get tall and spread out. Contrasting another flower would take a lot of them.
Most of my pots are either one mass of one flower, impatients on the shady side, and red because red pops against all the greenery of the shrubs.
In the sun I try to mix several shades of the same color. Pink flowers in one pot, purple in another, and one or two with a purple and a lime.
In the back yard I had mixed a purple "thing' that was advertized as being a sun loving coliea. Mixed in some petunias and some other pink flower. not a good mix. The other pot out there has a geberia daisy mixed in with something that looks like creeping jenny. I liked it in the spring, but the heat is hard on it. Water it every day, but 106 is too much. Hope it does better when things cool down.
I have a pot on the front porch of creeping jenny. I really like it for its lime-like color and it does drape over the pot edge. Creeping for a reason, I suppose.
Much to do this morning, and 83 at 5 AM. Not going above 98 today. Well that will be 10 degrees less than yesterday. Comes January we will want some of this heat. about half!
have a great day.
