Papaya carica 'Maradol' - Maradol Papaya

Papaya carica 'Maradol' - Maradol Papaya (Papaya carica 'Maradol' - Maradol Papaya)

With all the heat and humidity we've been having, my papayas are developing very well. Photo taken Aug. 24, 2011.

I hadn't noticed before how much the leaves on this resemble the leaves of Fatsia.

Meanie:

Yes, they resemble Fatsia, however, are very different. The leaves are much larger and softer and the long petioles are hallow like the trunk.

Palmate:

One fruit is about ready to be picked. Although, many of these younger papayas won't ripen for a while [maybe Dec or Jan]. They still have a lot of growing to do. :>)

Terratoonie:

Yes, it's been healthy and happy for more than 7 1/2 years. It's my oldest papaya plant. Although, it may have to be cut down in a couple of years. Most papaya plants only produce fruit well for only 3 - 5 years...this plant has been the exception.

Surrelylad:

Yes, it's still pretty productive. When it was young it used to produce around 30+ fruits a year.
