Nice photo. It reminds me of home when we used to get many rainbows especially in late afternoons.

My God, my God....See? This light you can never see in the British isles...

3 Oct, 2011

I saw a tv programme last year, and Kevin McCloud was saying that colours that work well in southerly countries (we're talking about decorating homes, here) rarely worked in the UK, because there is always such a high level of cloud cover, and that it has been proved that UK light is bluer and colder. I know that if you painted UK houses in the colours you see here, they would look totally wrong and garish. I think, and I'm sure you'll agree, Katarina, being a Mediterranean plant enthusiast, that the same goes for the colours of the plants. Yes, the light colour, quality and intensity is very noticeable, even in the depths of winter. It sings. It's one of the most wonderful parts of living here, and much as I'm tempted to come back to England when the going gets tough, the loss of the light would make me think twice, three, or four times again.

Lol.. I love you Gattina. Misty Blue.

5 Oct, 2011

Think it twice or three times. Everything is easier with more light. Every trouble seems worse in night then in the morning.

6 Oct, 2011

I love you, too, Pimpernel - I like that - "Misty Blue" I think I might change my avatar to that. Very romantic and mysterious.
Talking of the colours people paint houses, there is a very popular shade here that, frankly, wouldn't be attractive under ANY light. We have personally dubbed it "nappyfill". It shouldn't be allowed.

6 Oct, 2011

Is there an Italian equivalent for 'nappyfill',Gattina ? it really made me chuckle .:o)..I think I can imagine the colour..ugh !....When my daughter was young, and trying to master descriptions, her equally horrid word was 'Poo juice '!..Lol.

6 Oct, 2011

Oh, dear, Bloomer - just a little too descriptive, but very funny!
Naah, Italians don't go in for snappy verbal descriptions - you'd end up saying "The colour of faeces that babies fill their nappies with" Just a bit too much like hard work. That's why you find so many English words and phrases littering their language. Not all of them appropriate. The next time I go to the laundrette, I must remember to take my camera - there's the most hilarious piece of translation which I'm sure you'd all enjoy immensely. Watch this space.

6 Oct, 2011

I can hardly wait,Gattina ! Lol.

6 Oct, 2011

Remember, that Italians have a big sense of humour.

6 Oct, 2011

But I do not doubt they are the best designers, lol.

6 Oct, 2011

I can't agree about their being the best designers, nor about their sense of humour, Katarina - it's rather strange and a bit basic. I've been advised never to try my British sense of h. on them, as they would either be flummoxed or insulted. A very good Italian friend of ours is terribly keen to develop a British s.of h., but he just can't get his head round it. We do pull his leg, poor soul.
I have to tell you one of the funniest things here is the way Italians LOVE to put English words on t-shirts, without having any idea what they mean. We saw a sour-faced, fat, elderly lady waddling down the street, wearing a t-shirt, on which was written in huge letters - "FILTH", but our favourites are children's clothes. We have seen tiny, shrieking tots careering round the local supermarket, wearing tops bearing the words "Little Cow", and another with "Little Madam". Too right!

6 Oct, 2011

I cracked up at the thought of that first slogan,Gattina..:o).
I hate t-shirts with slogans on for adults..,unless they are supporting a charity or similar..children's are ok,with kid's stuff..and that's about it..and I also hate little girls looking as though they are going clubbing,..or pole dancing !!!.....stupid parents ..rant over.:o)

Amazing photo ...

7 Oct, 2011

Today, ladies and gentlemen, I can say with all the seriousness and respect to the moment, that it started to rain here, too.

7 Oct, 2011

Yeah, Katarina, I heard about that. It sounded a bit fierce. We were waiting for the same downpour here with open arms and bated breath. It mizzled for a couple of hours, then there was a lot of crashing of thunder for 5 minutes, then the sun came out again. Very disappointing. The lawn looks a bit happier, and despite fresh water bowls everywhere, the cats all went out to drink from the puddles. Why do they do that?

7 Oct, 2011

Maybe they like fresh rain water,Gattina..our lawn and plants look better too..just wish it wasn't so cold..grrr!

8 Oct, 2011

It's not cold Bloomer, it is perfect.

8 Oct, 2011

Not here it isn't.! to be fair,this evening the temp.has risen to 10 degrees..positively balmy..or barmy,whichever you prefer ! Lol.Still miserable,damp and very misty..not been good on the M62 either...bad visibility...we have had an 'at home' day..for a change :o)

8 Oct, 2011

Let's face it, Bloomer, the M62 is never a good place to be.

8 Oct, 2011

OK, I know what is M62, but what about M63? Lol.

8 Oct, 2011

Where is M63,Katarina? I don't know that one...

8 Oct, 2011

Stunning!

21 Oct, 2011

Same here, our sense of Humour is lost or considering insulting...and a big yep about the English slogans on T shirts...
Love the stone built Houses or the newer builds that are white with the gorgeous red coloured tiled roofs...looks so good in the Sun...

21 Oct, 2011

What a beautiful place you live in.

25 Oct, 2011

Exactly Cammomile, whatever the slogans on Italian T-shirts, their country is beautiful. And food also. Taking into account the difference between Italian and English sense of humour I must say, both made me laugh if it is a good humour. I will never regret to watch again Fantuzzi´s adventures or Pink Panther. And that it is a basic humour? So what? Life is too complicated and wise people just few, so why to create superintellectual humour for few people?

25 Oct, 2011

Oh I don't think anyone can claim to have "Superintellectual" humour, Katarina - it's just what you're USED to, some of it is a bit more oblique and difficult to understand, but that doesn't necessarily make it better.

25 Oct, 2011

You know, Gattina, sense of humour is a human quality. I always take it like that.

26 Oct, 2011

I agree, Katarina, as long as it isn't cruel, and sometimes a person's personal humour can be very cruel.

27 Oct, 2011

Exactly, that is what I say - sense of humour is personal quality, not national quality. And as each nation has different background or historical experience, for each nation there is funny something different.
Ach Gattina, that rainbow is beautiful!!!
