This is one of my favourite fuchsias..love the vivid orange scarlet against the dark green leaves..and it flowers all summer long...tho I remember Monty saying fuchsias had a poor year this year! Lovely portrait of it Sticki..

25 Oct, 2011

26 Oct, 2011

One of my very favourite Fuchsias!

26 Oct, 2011

bit different aren't they? bit like red trumpets i thought.

26 Oct, 2011

That's what I like about them.
Both of my Triphylla Fuchsias did well (eventually) this year.

26 Oct, 2011

these have been out for a while but im not sure if they were late ~ i havent grown this before.

26 Oct, 2011

It was in bloom since May but never got going properly till mid August.

26 Oct, 2011

i cant remember that far back!!! but i dont think its increased massively in the time its been out??

26 Oct, 2011

26 Oct, 2011

er......no!!!

i have put yours into my favourites so i know what to strive for. mine only has a few clusters of flowers.
how do i make it better for next year?

26 Oct, 2011

Mine are in ten inch pots which get stuck in a bucket for a soak once a week, fed whenever I remember! Full sun too.

This is another triphylla Fuchsia from last year.............

26 Oct, 2011

ah, full sun would help, i didnt put it to soak either. the shape of yours is good ~ mine is quite stalky ~ presumably because its not light enough??

btw meanie ~ i have been trying to take some photos where the foreground is darker than the sky ~ one or other gets washed out ~ is there any solution to this?

26 Oct, 2011

Not a fuchsia lover Sticki, but this is amazing...Gone onto my favourites..(for next year)...:>)

26 Oct, 2011

thank you motinot ~ but have a look at meanie's ~ they are far better than mine.

26 Oct, 2011

As in a silhouette photo? Best way to do this is towards the light source.

26 Oct, 2011

um almost like a silhouette, even tho that is not what i wanted. eg: tried to take a picture of a church on a hill, which was surrounded by trees, the backdrop sky was bright blue with white clouds ~ i could either get lovely sky but church so dark you could hardly see it, or could get church right but sky turned white.

26 Oct, 2011

Tricky - but if you could shift the point of focus to one side and it could fix on the edge of a cloud as the point of focus, with a large aperture (f16 upwards) that may have done it. Trouble is that a large f value lets more light in, so if the maximum shutter speed was insufficient then the whole shot could have been washed out..........

It's all trial and error.

26 Oct, 2011

ok, thanks meanie, will keep trying.

meanie, thats really good of you ~ i didnt know about all that detail that could be found from a flikr picture ~ although i realised you could find it because you worked out mine.

thank you so much ~ its very helpful.

26 Oct, 2011

It's a good way to get a handle on things Sticki.

26 Oct, 2011

it is ~ i shall study hard. thank you.

i can join the G10 groups!!!

26 Oct, 2011

Wow, thats what you call going out in a blaze of glory Sticki, your very own firework!

26 Oct, 2011

yes, very true ~ thanks janey!

26 Oct, 2011

Stick to;

Exposure (.001sec in the photo in the link)
Aperture (f8 in the photo in the link)
ISO speed (80 in the......)
Exposure mode (manual in the.........)
Exposure bias (+2 in the.........)
Flash (fired or not)
Exposure mode (manual in the.....)
White balance (auto in the.......)

That's the important stuff.

26 Oct, 2011

saved all the information to my 'photo advice' folder!!

26 Oct, 2011

Buy a cheap orchid and use that as a subject to practise with - they last a long time so you'll have a constant to work with as you put it into different situations (light, background etc).

26 Oct, 2011

I have two orchids, so I'm already to go! Thank you again.

27 Oct, 2011

A brilliant picture , such firey colour;0)

27 Oct, 2011

thank you Pansy, doesnt compare with your wonderful paintings though!!

27 Oct, 2011

What a nice thing to say Sticky, but you can't beat Mother Nature ;0)

27 Oct, 2011

ah, true but i wouldnt try to do that!!!

27 Oct, 2011
