El Sid 1 (Sidalcea)

Several of these have been recently appearing in my parents' small garden. We didn't know what they were, as they were not intentionally planted. Thanks to GoY, have discovered what they are. A nice surprise for mid November :-)

They are so pretty ,a bonus for November David , I have noticed several flowers trying to bloom again in the garden .. it's very strange this year !

It is strange, Amy. Still, considering the snow had begun this time last year, everything seems to be a bonus now. :-)

by it's appearance, sidalcea looks very like a combo of an hibiscus, an anthea, and a mallow! same family? love the flower's tissue paper petals.

You followed my own train of thought, Lori, when trying to identify this for my Dad. Hibiscus, Mallow, Hollyhock all went through my mind. Just found its identity by chance elsewhere on GOY. Sidalcea belongs to the Mallow family, and Alcea is the Latin name for Hollyhock, of course. Phew, I got there, in the end, much to both Dad's, and my own, relief. :-)

looks like I got my hollyhock's name slightly fractured! I'll just blame it on aging! lol....It's nice to have surprises like that...I had a mallow appear in my beds this spring! The deer love it! (worse luck)

Hoping, Lori, that I now have the same excuse, being, now, on the "wrong" side of a half century, lol!

Oh, Deer!!!! Sorry about your Mallow. :-((
