That looks lovely. I have a couple of Phyllostachys nigras I planted them summer of 2009 they have hardly grown. I put this down to not watering them the first summer? Any tips?

Hi Drc - reminds me of a common bamboo cliche - 1st year it sleeps, 2nd year it creeps, 3rd year it leaps!
Lack of water might have held it back If it was particularly dry after it was first planted. Give it a good mulch to help the rhizomes over the winter. In the spring lavish it with plenty of nitrogen - its just a grass after all - I'm sure it will reward you next year!
