What a beauty.

24 Nov, 2011

It's part of the hedge in my new garden, Pimpernel. It's a bit neglected but...not for long! :))

24 Nov, 2011

I love this Karen. I have an Ixora on my balcony, a little different to this.

24 Nov, 2011

It's beautiful, isn't it Alex? I've even see it topiaried here! I think that this one is a fairly 'common or garden' variety.

24 Nov, 2011

So, how is it going? Settled in yet?
I'm enjoying not having to go to work!

24 Nov, 2011

Lovely colour - it is gorgeous.
Topiary - you could join the Cloud Pruning Club K :)

24 Nov, 2011

I bet you are, Alex! It'll have been a long season for you.
I'm just beginning to enjoy myself since they gave me the house with A GARDEN! lol!!!

Absolutely, Scottish! Except, it'll no be me doing the pruning - for a change!!! :)

24 Nov, 2011

you'll have to have a bash at it though

24 Nov, 2011

You're probably right... :)

24 Nov, 2011

That is lovely,Karen..wouldn't mind a 'common one' like this :o)

24 Nov, 2011

Lovely 'hot' colour

24 Nov, 2011

Lovely flower, I would like a hedge with this in! :o)

24 Nov, 2011

Oh yes P, wouldn't that look fantastic!!!

24 Nov, 2011

Really lovely plant so vibrant:)

24 Nov, 2011

Just love that colour Karen.......

24 Nov, 2011

So, this is a different house to the first or is this the beginning of your oasis?

25 Nov, 2011

This makes me feel warm just by looking at it! Enjoy...I can sense you are a bit excited by this new garden!

25 Nov, 2011

Thanks for all your lovely comments folks! I can't take any credit cos it's already there...! I feel so lucky! :)))

Alex, the 'courtyard' in the house they gave us is so small and so hot (facing the sun, concrete walls on three sides, steel gates on the fourth) that it is impossible to be outside for any length of time.

When I told them I couldn't live there (with 2 dogs), they told me to go house-hunting...and look what I found!

25 Nov, 2011

Oh, lucky you! Now you have what you like.
Two dogs? You took them over from the UK or your new pets?

25 Nov, 2011

The dogs are both French and used to living in the countryside, Alex. They've almost forgotten what their legs are for, since we came here...so they'll love it too. :))

25 Nov, 2011

sorry i nearly missed this ~ its truly beautiful!!

well done you for finding such a lovely place ~ was it these ixoras that made you want the house?

26 Nov, 2011

So beautiful! I love this shrub! Mine are still flowering on the side of my house. :>)

27 Nov, 2011

Oh, Sticki...I went into the garden and was enchanted. The ixoras are just the beginning... :)

They are growing out of the pavements here, Delonix. I think it is probably the most common shrub in the Estate. Very pretty and so colourful! :)

28 Nov, 2011

Wow! Growing out of the pavement...that's amazing...never seen that here. :>)

I like the orange, red and yellow varieties. I used to have Singapore Yellow and it fried in a heatwave a couple of years ago when I went to Honolulu, Hawaii for my family reunion.

28 Nov, 2011

Oh no! I hate it when that happens...

I've only seen orange, red and yellow ones here so far. What's the climate like in Honolulu, Delonix?

28 Nov, 2011

There's also pink, white and variegated varieties.

Honolulu, Hawaii has a hot, humid tropical climate.

Here's a few pics:

Beautiful!! Much taller than here! :)

29 Nov, 2011

Yes, they grow very tall in Hawaii. Hilo, Hawaii has the tallest known coconut palm in the U.S. It's 130ft/40m tall and still bears coconuts...it's because of the extremely high rainfall Hilo experiences.

I thought , where is it this beautiful place/ Maybe i should go for good. But I am sure it has it moments too. What a luscious color of something i don't know.

3 Dec, 2011

Oh Delonix, they've made off with my coconuts too, while I was away!!! :/

Hi Wells! Nigeria has its problems but it's not all bad...I get to live in a semi-wild little oasis with beautiful flora and the people are lovely. :)

6 Dec, 2011

Karenfranceafrica:

That's horrible! Someone stole your green coconuts.

7 Dec, 2011

Yes! Not one left on or around the tree!

I guess I'll just have to wait for the next ones..... :)

7 Dec, 2011

I wonder if they were cut off because of the dropping-coconut hazard. This is common practice in many area where coconuts are grown.

In populated ares of Hawaii you rarely see coconuts growing on trees...they cut them all off! Falling coconuts can kill a person or do a lot of damage to cars and property.

7 Dec, 2011

It's a strange fact, but there are more Nigerians killed by falling coconuts than by truck accidents...if you ever saw the roads here you would believe me!

I asked (and paid!) for them to be cut off, Delonix...but..

I said, 'I want only the small tender ones, the rest are yours!'.............result - NONE!!!

C'est la vie...in Nigeria! lol!!

7 Dec, 2011

I absolutely love palms, being a Palm Society Member since 1984. HOWEVER, palm trees planted in high-traffic areas can be deadly or create a lot of damage. Here in San Diego many of the very large street-tree palms are pruned up just before fall. Many of the fronds can fall and kill or create major damage to houses and cars (Queen Palms [Syagrus romanzoffiana] are the worst, they grow here by the millions and are very susceptible to being toppled in high winds...they also grow very tall to about 100ft/31m.)

10 Dec, 2011

I want to add...it's very difficult to find good help!

10 Dec, 2011

Tell me about it, D! I am like a lamb to the slaughter here!!! LOL!!!

12 Dec, 2011

Oh no! That's not a good feeling! :(

12 Dec, 2011

Hahah! I'm learning fast! :/
