"Wren On A Bender"

"Wren On A Bender"

This little Jenny loves perching on a bent dahlia stork. I have intermingled a few dried mealworms at the base of the dahlia. It gives the wren with the smaller body frame to feed away from the larger birds.

Once had a wren land on my foot while I was out posting...it stayed there for a few seconds and darted behind a planter.

aww Tommy, great...we had two darting in and out of the shrubs and through the fence the other morning, but they were so quick to snap.....and it's the first time i've seen Wrens since we've been in this new Home, really cute aren't they....:)))

Good to get such a perfect photo, because they are so quick and secretive usually. I see one occasionally nipping in and out of the honeysuckle stems, but never get any chance of a photo. They are so small!
I once watched over a whole afternoon, from a kitchen window, a wren teaching her babies to fly off a three foot wall. For the first while they just landed plop on the grass and scrambled back up to the top again, but within another hour or so they were landing further and further away and managing to fly back up again. Amazing.

Thank you all for your nice comments and likes.

Wrens seem to live in a world of their own

I just reckon that I was lucky in getting a photo....
I take nearly all of my photos from behind the kitchen. I have to make sure to have no lights on, as I discovered that my specs were sometimes acting as a mirror and the reflected light was scaring off the birds .....

Years back as a child my father was in the RAF. Even in those days I liked wild life and with the class use to help our biology teacher find and catch beetles etc...One year our school had a SOS from a zoo. They needed insects or spiders for some little insectivore mammal that had landed at an airport. I remember sitting on some old concrete foundations and catching hundreds of little wolf spiders. We had to pack the spiders into boxes divided into sections with rolls of corrugated cardboard to stop the spiders from killing each other.....

Back to birds : Moving about a lot from County to County and Country to Country there is definite behavioural pattern between birds and man. In Aden I use to daily watch a pair of kites that seemed to be forever overhead just observing. (Reminded me of vultures) then I was posted to Kenya and my first day at the swimming pool was a shock. I had just purchased a cup of tea and a cheese and tomato roll. Never even saw it coming, from the corner of my eye a shadow and the shape of talons closing down on my roll. Bye Bye Roll. It was another kite that belonged to a pair that patrolled the pool. They looked exactly the same as the Aden kites except no fear of human. This pair got to daring for their own good, scaring the young children , diving at any bit of food that was going.
I know that the Commanding Officer posted that they were to be culled. Had beautiful starlings and some very friendly sparrow looking birds taking food from your hand........

In Singapore the swifts use to be about 30 strong flying and screaming in a very tight circle like a tornado but witnessing this just about ten feet from the ground. In UK I only see a few and this year I saw three. .
When living a few miles from where I am now living the Robin was so friendly he would sit as you dug the garden. .....my present home the Robin disappears the second you open the back door. It soon returns once I put some food out,,,,
