Thank you GoY

Thank you GoY

Im sorry to say I cant remember who it was that recommended this 'christmas box' it may have been more than one person.
I bought a tiny plant this spring, the plant has now tripled in size and at the bottom of it I found these beautiful shiny berries. I love it ~ so whoever you were that said it was worth having, thank you ~ i totally agree.

Very nice,Sticki..I don't have one,so it wasn't me..a process of elimination now..that's one off the huge list !
Do you know how big it gets eventually? Dependant on that,as to whether I buy one or not,in the future..

That's really pretty. Useful for this time of year, too. What is the botanical name so I can look out for it in the GCs?

Very Pretty Sticki :)

Wow, aren't they lovely? I have three actually...the oldest one is about five years old and about 3' high, but it has been moved about 5 times so that has stunted it somewhat! I have two others that are just babies, but they do grow well and the scent in the winter is gorgeous! They are all different kinds....hookeriana 'digyna', confusa and ruscifolia. Hookeriana digyna is the prettiest, but also the slowest growing for me here..it has finer foliage with purple-pink hues on the stems, flowers and new growth. It grows to 1.5m The other two are much greener. Confusa grows to 2m, and ruscifolia to only 50cm. and 80cm wide so it's good for evergreen ground cover. They are definitely worth growing for their evergreen foliage, winter flowers and beautiful scent. :)) oh, and they grow in shade too!

Really pretty :)

I think you were one of the people who mentioned it before Karen, thank you, I'm not actually sure which one mine is, the new growth is quite bright green, have to look and see if I still have the label?

Thanks pixi.

Yes, it certainly looks like confusa to me in this photo, but I'm no expert on these..but my confusa leaves are quite bright green too. None of mine are in flower yet, but they have lots of buds on. Usually, at this time of year you would get berries and flowers at the same time....a bit like you do with Arbutus unedo.

A lovely shrub Sticki, looks lovely and healthy too, very Christmassy, one to go on my want list for 2012;0)

i found the label, it was 3 for £10 at B and Q and its a Sarcococca Christmas Box Confusa

like Karen says it is quite bright green and has little tiny buds at the end of the stems, the lovely berries are all at the bottom of the plant ~ presumably on last years growth where the flowers were in the spring. sweet little thing, im really pleased i got it.

I have one of these too, mine is in a Ali baba shaped pot so I dont seem to get berries just highly scented minute flowers which smell like hyacinth to me, gorgeous.
