It was sunny and reasonably mild in my gardens on Boxing Day and I took a pic. of my climbing rose covered in blooms.

Roses doing very well in England this winter !

I tell you, nothing will save you. Even hurricane palms :))) But Irene wasn´t friendly too.
On the other side, my eye is calm.

Katarina:

It's called hurricane palm because it very tolerant of wind and hurricanes in its native tropical habitat. It's very widely grown in southern Florida where they get many hurricanes.

Terratoonie:

Wow! That's great you're having a mild winter. I know the last two past winters have been very harsh there.

Here in San Diego the weather has been warm to hot for the last 8 days. Today many areas of inland San Diego are going to be 85ºF/29ºC. It's feeling more like the ending of Spring. It's suppose to be warm this whole week. :>)

Sandra:

Yes, the grassy area would be perfect for a picnic. :>)

Glad it's been a mild winter there for you this year!

It's been exceptionally warm to hot here for the last 2 weeks or so. Next week it's still going to be warm, but not hot.
