A feast of funghi

Perfect photo, if you can ID them that's one for a database.

sorry severnside i have no idea what they are called ~ i have another photo showing the gills if that helps.

Looks a bit like Honey fungus , if it is I'm glad it's not in your garden Sticki .......

well thats what i was worried about amy ~ its not far away!

It is a worry , we had a lovely walnut tree in our garden it died almost overnight we are still not sure if it was Honey Fungus there were piles of Fungus at the base that looked like this ....

there are lots of holly trees around this but the funghi are in a little gap in the trees, lots of rotting leaves and possibly some silver birch branches are there?

Unfortunately HF does look like a close match. I'm no expert just looking through Google images.

I was terribly worried about it going right through my garden , I think the only thing that has possibly stopped it's spread is that the previous owners had set the walnut in a large area of concrete which was their dog kennels , hopefully it will be contained in that area if that is was what it was ...........

what would you do with it if you were me?

lol Sticki - I think you'll be okay - only grows in darker moist areas doesn't it ? Not sure but don't think it does much harm

I think you can eat Honey Fungus Sticki , you will have to munch your way through it LOL...

some very large plates or appetites needed ~ mushrooms anyone???

i looks a bit like honey fungus but not sure if it is though you normally have a big group all together,, great pic though :-)

there is quite a big group SL ~ have to be 50 or so in a space of 3 square yards??

im half wondering about asking the Lickey Rangers ~ they work only a mile up the road, managing the Lickey Hills and the forests, one of them is quite knowledgeable about funghi; I did wonder if the council would need to know ~ in case it kills their trees???

I think that these are Clouded Agaric (Clitocybe nebularis).

I doubt it, as I saw lots of these at RHS Wisley, and I think the experts there would have taken exterminatory measures if they were a problem. :)

Heard on GQT today that Honey Fungus is opportunistic in attacking old plants/trees or damaged roots. In answer to a question (approximately) 'will my garden be clear after several years' the advice was 'take the chance, plant away'. If you have old trees then that could be a target but don't lose sleep it seems.
