Hopefully yes D.D I made one from cement - and even breeze blocks with drill holes , also the engineering bricks for the bigger insects - probably even mice as it is on ground in sheltered corner

Thanks Lab, Paul you have some very imaginative ideas.

fingers crossed for you - bees need all the help they can get!

They will come Dd. maybe not this year though, so be patient, but you might be suprised, if you find one of the holes plugged with mud by June time then you have residents! usually about six cells to a tube! I have a small colony of mason bees and i put out new tubes every year, they are a delight to watch.

Hello Fran, if you look through my photos there are some pics on there but these bees are quite small and therefore difficult to photo, also I dont like to disturb them, i just let them get on and watch from a distance.

That's lovely Dotty - and you'll be able to see if it's used. We have a "ladybird house" but have no idea if there are any in there or not!

Thats beeutiful! Bees are a delight to watch in the garden.
My lavender border is usually covered with them during flowering. I have explained to my children that they are great insects to have in the garden and not to be afraid of them. Wasps on the other hand...... also very useful but can be a pain in the bum......or hand, arm, leg, etc!

thanks Grandmage, will look. know what you mean baout giving them their space; no point encouraging them back if they're going to be harrassed!

Hi dotty,I have had one of these for about two years.in summer I was amazed to see bees coming and blocking the holes up with what looked like mud.I presumed they had laid their eggs.I put mine at the top of my fence.they certain made use of it.amongst my photos there is a pic of mine in use. :)

Thats lovely DD, I'll watch out for updates in the summer to see if you have any residents :-)
We have a beekeeper on the allotments at the bottom of the garden, the mahonia was covered in them the other day, in January!!!!!, must remember to catch him this year to order some honey, missed out last year.

Thanks Criss OH was tickled tickled pink with it......Simbad how lovely to have a beekeeper so near, we buy so much honey but not local unfortunately.
Sue just found your pic, ours is on the arch which has many flowers surrounding it.
Geranium we have a lavender hedge which the bees love, I agree wasps do have their uses, usually trying to sting me!!
Louis we do need to do our bit for wildlife, glad you like it.
Sheila, a ladybird house sounds very interesting, we have so few in our garden these days.
Thanks Amy, Fran and GM.......will post pics when the visitors arrive.!!

Thanks Dotty. We do have masses of ladybirds, but they seem to live in all sorts of other tucked-away places: it's always good to see them though.
