Great photo Lulu....we have so many of these on our main road here. Amazing to see them, one every couple of fields, perching on the fences like they own the place!

Thank you, we have lots of Buzzards here.

5 Feb, 2012

great shot Lulu

5 Feb, 2012

good to hear there's plenty around: weren't they an endangered species even a little while aog?

5 Feb, 2012

My hubby told me that Buzzards aren't an indigenous species, that they escaped from Longleat!!!

5 Feb, 2012

wow. I thought they were native. I'll have to see what Mr Google has to say on the subject of buzzards and Longleat.

I knew that rabbits weren't native, the Romans brought them over, but I was surprised to read that they didn't escape into the wild until Victorian times; I thought it was much earlier than that.

5 Feb, 2012

i thought they were native, purely based on the fact that the town i used to go to school in was Leighton Buzzard

5 Feb, 2012

nods, I'd thought they belnged here; sure there's a mention in one of the Arthur Ransome books set on the Norfold Broads about buzzards becomeing rarer - and that was in the 20s or 30s - maybe His Lordship had a different variety that got out?

5 Feb, 2012

Hang on guys maybe hubby is wrong!!?
We are disagreeing about the benefits of organic food at the mo!! I have slunk off to look up how to make lettuce juice to aid sleep...it tastes yuk!

5 Feb, 2012

As far as I know, there are several species of Buzzard, I do not know all English names. Some are stable in the UK, some migrate there in the winter and in the spring are coming back to East. But for sure, some of them ARE natural for the UK.

5 Feb, 2012

lol that's good, we get the best of both worlds and everyone was right.

5 Feb, 2012

Lettuce juice helps sleep? Want to give me the recipe Lulu? :) are you feeling all better now..have the stones passed?

5 Feb, 2012

in the peter rabbit books the bunnies all fall asleep after eating lettuce ~ its soporific??

5 Feb, 2012

Oh yeah! wow..dont fancy it prolly tastes yukky but i need something to help me get a good night's sleep..always so broken..sometimes none at all!

5 Feb, 2012

i dont think i fancy eating a whole lettuce before i go to sleep!!!

5 Feb, 2012

lol no! WOuld it have to be a whole lettuce to get the juice? Ive no idea? Might google it :)

5 Feb, 2012

sorry i really dont know. perhaps reading the peter rabbit book would be more likely to put me to sleep???

Just came across this article..interesting

5 Feb, 2012

5 Feb, 2012

23.15. Lettuce juice tastes really YUK! Had to mix it with melon and cucumber juice............but I do feel sleepy!
will tell how i slept in the morning zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

5 Feb, 2012

"lettuce" know how you get on *s*

5 Feb, 2012

Oh God Fran,, it tastes disgusting and I had the most horrible nightmare!! won't be trying that one again!

6 Feb, 2012

grins, thanks for that, stops other people trying it - not that I had any intention of having a go - don't eat lettuce much at all, far less drink it!

6 Feb, 2012

Love lettuce in salad or fried as in crispy seaweed, just not the juice, never again!

6 Feb, 2012

I used to buy whole lettuce, till i found a catarpillar in it while I was washing the leaves. I couldn't enjoy eating it; wondering if I'd seen all there was to be seen. Then I started buying bags of shredded lettuce leaves, on the grounds that it had already been washed, and (hopefully!) cleaned. not bought any for a while, no real reason, just not done it.

6 Feb, 2012

Well.....I had half a glassful of lettuce, yukky juice left in the fridge, and David has just knocked it onto the floor! No more lettuce juice for me, Yay!

6 Feb, 2012

grins, oh, I can tell you're heartbrokan about it!

6 Feb, 2012

absolutely! not

6 Feb, 2012

well captured, how about cabbage?

6 Feb, 2012

years ago, family friend used to drink water peas were cooked in

6 Feb, 2012

lol. Funny chat. I wonder why to make lettuce juice if i can eat the whole lettuce?

6 Feb, 2012

that sounds like it might be good for you Fran, i mean good for everyone

6 Feb, 2012

Just to update those who weren't in the thread about the lettuce juice.........it was an idea that it was a sleep remedy, so Nope Stevie, cabbage would not do!! But it was superb at inducing nightmares!
Tonight's juice is cucumber, melon, pear and apple (had to clear out the fridge!)

6 Feb, 2012

lol, Stevie, undrestood. any water any veg cooked in will contain some of the goodness of the veg?? I'm not a great veg-eater - shove some frozen peas or sprouts in the mircorwave is about my limit

7 Feb, 2012

steaming is supposed to be best for veg, bit of salt n pepper hmmm

Lulu, turkey has an ingredient that makes you sleep, thats why folk have a kip after xmas dinner, how about a turkey sandwich with that juice : /

7 Feb, 2012

is that really true?

turkey flavoured ovaltine????? um?

7 Feb, 2012

I think eating a lot at one time makes you sleepy - that's why lions kip a lot - gorge, then have to sleep it off to give their digestion time to start working.

mum always used to moan that we never wanted any Christmas pud, but after the main course, we didn't have room for it!

7 Feb, 2012

Best sleep is when the brain works normally. You can help your brain to normalize transmitters only with certain foods, all of which are rich in proteins. Maybe Steve is right, I know more about plant proteins which are in beans and lentils and are useful for brain function. Then warm milk and banana :)

7 Feb, 2012

My brain is highly over active, has been all my life! Cerebral!

7 Feb, 2012

*s* I'm a bit the same way, Lulu, but I had a less-kind label applied ... (clue, rhymes with "lentil", sort of!)

7 Feb, 2012

My comment has nothing to do with your brain, Lulu. It is about how to fight sleeplesses, which can bother each of us from time to time.

7 Feb, 2012

Loopy Loo, one of my many names and sleeplessness one of my many games....

7 Feb, 2012

Oh, I can sleep all right, eventually. but it's getting to the "eventually" that's wearing. 3, 4, 5 am ... how long do you lie there trying until you decide it's not going to work and get up again? and then really, really want to go to sleep about 3pm?

7 Feb, 2012

There is nothing better, then afternoon nap, Fran.:)

7 Feb, 2012

grins, but it's never a catnap - wake at about ten or midngiht, so of course I can't sleep then, so I'm up half the night - again. Try to make myself hang on till eight or nine at least, but when i find I'm sliding out of my chair under the table, time to give up and go to bed ...
