Look before you fly...

Look before you fly...

Concentrating on trying to capture the red kite, I hadn't noticed what else was there, until I saw it on the computer!

Stunning serendipity Sticki!

I see buzzards over the valley but can never get them as more than a dark shape. That is very good quality and you say you don't have a zoom???

i found an extra function on the camera!!!
mostly they still look like little sycamore seeds in the sky, this one must have been nearer!!

Well to catch not only the white under wings but the russet body in sun - and - eye and beak. Wow. It's absolutely the best you could have achieved without a big lens or one really close.

thanks 7, lovely birds aren't they?

19 Mar, 2012

They are at the extreme of flying for their size. Fighter jets are now constructed to be unstable in flight which is then contolled back by electronics. The Red Kite seems to use that instabilty envelope with total ease and abandon. The way they 'fly' like a bundle of rags...incredible.

they also seem to play in the air, i watched a pair of them spiralling and chasing ~ brilliant!

19 Mar, 2012

They certainly do seem to enjoy the sheer fun of it.

i also saw buzzards and a green woodpecker today.

Nice :) I'm hearing a GW call but haven't seen it yet. I was glad to see a GSW pecking at a branch in next dooor's tree the other day.

WOW! which camera is this Sticki? Is it very hard to use? I tried a couple of years ago to photograph (was going to put shoot, but looked wrong) some, what I think were buzzards...rubbish...could have been anything lol, very disappointing. Red kites eh...have they been introduced in your area recently?:-)

22 Mar, 2012

It will be unfortunately Lil!

22 Mar, 2012

Maybe it's insured under your home insurance policy Sticki? Worth a try. I feel like I've jinxed it:-(

22 Mar, 2012

going to check BA thanks.
i dropped it cos i was in a hurry and carrying too much!!!

I did that to my 6 year old Canon S3 last year, still kicking myself as I always wrap the strap round my wrist to avoid such accidents. The irony is that the strap caught on the corner of the garden table & dragged it off my arm. You can get them s/h for about £45 but its thats not the point with me as it was so good at macro & straight forward to use plus I got very attached to it, daft but true.

22 Mar, 2012

Where can I get it sorted for £45 please bampy? I'm fearing £150 if it goes back to canon!

22 Mar, 2012

elegant juxtaposition there, Sticki - looks like they're on converging courses, and so beautifully in focus. Here's hoping for many more "accidents" of this nature!

I managed to claim from my home insurance for my first digital camera - that was my first every claim. I'd bought a USB cable to charge it via the PC, but when I plugged in what I *thought* was the right cable, it lit up like a christmas tree and then refused to do anything but sulk. I had to pay the first £50 of the cost of a new one, but I got a new Kodak Easyshare camera kit (camera, printer dock, paper, and the right cables) - Jessups had a sale on at the time.

23 Mar, 2012

Well done fran! I shall have to investigate!

23 Mar, 2012

of course a decent camera would probably cost a lot more, but if you only have to pay the first £whatever, it's worth checking out.

23 Mar, 2012

Ok, thank you.

23 Mar, 2012

Sorry to hear about your camera :( Fantastic photo though

25 Mar, 2012

Thanks jennyfer

25 Mar, 2012

thanks HB, i suppose it was heavy enough to do the damage almost to itself, a lighter one would have been ok [perhaps??]

the grandchildren dropped it ~ oh heck!!! thats not so good is it!
