Caesalpinia giliesii, Bird of Paradise Shrub. I started this little bad boy from seed three years ago. It finally decided to bless me with some blooms .

Thanks everyone ! Diohio, I would sure give it a try, I know it is hardy to zone 7 with no protection. Now I'm looking for seeds for the one with a reddish orange bloom ! I just don't know when to quit !

I saw the reddish-orange one when I Googled it and yes, I love that one too. I think I'll give it a try. I really have a thing about Bird of Paradise ! I'm still hoping that my REAL one blooms this summer !

The Bird of Paradise grows wild in Arizona. They are very easy to transplant and propagate. This is a fine example.

Gardengnome... You probably also have another bird of paradise growing wild where you live that I'd love to grow called Caesalpinia Pulcherrima. It's prettier than the one I have, but it will not survive our winters.
