It is a lovely flower Sticki. It took 3 tries to get it to grow properly, and it's an expensive shrub. At the moment it's not too happy. It had a feed yesterday and a dose of Mag Sulph to try and pep it up a bit. It blooms May/June

That was last year Sticki, now it looks a bit straggly and a lot of discoloured leaves too. Like when you have a bad hair day and not too happy! It responded to Epsom salts last time it went off the brew......see how it goes=magnesium shortage????

i dont know dorjac, sorry, does it like the soil its in?? or is it to do with the weather?
i hope it picks up for you ~ its so lovely.

There was a very large Mock orange there before the Carpenteria. Lots of enrichment before planting. Now after about 10 years the soil is getting tired and short of elements. I identified possible magnesium shortage from the shrub book by the look of the leaves (mottled and dry brown patches) got Epsom salts from the chemist. It seemed to work last time Sticki---fingers crossed. The take up of other essential elements is blocked if magnesium is not enough in the soil. Next watering tomato fertiliser.

Hope all your remedies work, Dorjac, it is such a lovely shrub. I wonder if you are able to get into the garden today - heavy rain and wind here. Millie hasn't budged from her bed yet :)

Thanks Gee. I had a garden session yesterday, as the forecast for today was awful. If you don't look closely at this time of the year, things can get out of hand quickly with pests like caterpillars, rust on Heuchera and some trouble on 2 pear trees. When growth starts, deficiencies start to show, as with the Carpentaria. Horrible heavy rain since 7am.....but it's needed as long as no one gets flooded. OH is reluctant to budge from his bed too, in this sort of weather. He misses sitting in the garden. Millie is very perceptive to stay put. At least she's not at the door begging for a muddy walk!!

Fortunately I have to wait in for a parcel today so Millie is safe until that arrives, Dorjac. Then I will encourage her to take a wet walk with me - it will do us both good although I think I will stick to pavement walking today :)
