Container garden, Cromarty, Black Isle

All these plants are grown in containers, only about 100 yards from the sea!

Yes - great, aren't they, Stevie! Unfortunately, I'd have needed a very wide-angle lens to get a different view. Walking along there was good, though.

Thank you! We holiday regularly in Cromarty, meeting up there with the kids. It's a lovely place, and there are some beautiful little gardens there.

Glad you like it, Katarina. A couple of the gardens in Cromarty are very striking - they are old fishermen's cottages, not much land at all so the gardens show a lot of ingenuity!

Tell me something about Cromarty, please. Do you live there or is it a weekend destination?

18 May, 2012

Cromarty is a fishing village east of Inverness, in northern Scotland. I wish it was a weekend destination! It is one of my most favourite places. It takes us about 7 hours to drive there. We have a summer holiday there, renting a house, about every two years. It is an 18th century village, very unspoilt, which is now home to quite a thriving artist population. The fishing industry is no more, sadly. Have a look at it on Google Streetview - I think it is very picturesque. There is a colony of dolphins living in the Cromarty Firth, and it is quite usual to see them if you take a boat trip, or if you go to Rosemarkie, just south of Cromarty, you can see them regularly from the beach.

Thank you for information :) I heard, that Scotland is a very place to visit. Did not know that you have dolphns there, I thought they live in warmer seas.

The Cromarty dolphins are the most northerly in the world. They are larger than most, because of the lower sea temperature (more body fat). We love Scotland, and visit regularly (our daughter and husband live in Glasgow)

Yes - and we've decided to return yet again next year (we go about every two years). The family decided we couldn't miss our get-together. So now I have 15 months of looking forward!!!
