I've just ordered one of these. I saw it at Brechin Castle open day on Sunday, trained against a wall...really lovely!

Oh, fabulous Simbad! This is one of my favourite plants, a really stunning Rose. If only I had more room....I really envy you is one....:))

I've never seen one this size. I suppose you can prune it back and cut away some of the old stems to keep it in check. I certainly don't have room for one that size! I'm going to try to grow it against the arches, or the fence, not quite sure yet!

Isn't it fabulous though Karen, you'd be able to keep it well trained, and as large as you want wouldn't you.
8 May, 2012
I certainly hope so! :)) It is wonderful isn't it....It would look fantastic on your lovely wall!

Yes it would.....it's always in the shade though Karen and this afternoon we had our Eucalyptus tree chopped down, leaving me with 2 Albertine roses to rehome......:((

OH! Well, albertine doesn't mind a bit of shade I think...is that right? Anyway, I hope you like the result of the tree down....I've ended up planting more Eucalyptus, but I shall be keeping them chopped!

Well, took the plunge, and yes, it's much better, we have a nice veggie plot now, without a tree in the middle of it.
I'm not planning on planting anything now that isn't fully hardy...the euc and cordylines were the bones of the garden, but all have gone.

Thanks everyone :-),
Yes those thorns are pretty lethal Ojibway93 :-)
Its a beauty Karen you won't be disappointed, this really does need a trim and thinning out a bit, can't bring myself to do it though :-), suppose I'll have to take the plunge, before it takes over the world, lol.
Funny you should mention 'Albertine' Janey I've just bought one to grow over my new arch :-)

I really miss my phormiums, they do add structure don't they, lost 6 out of 9 phormiums and the borders look odd without them, have just bought one replacement and praying for no cold winters for a while.

Well fancy that Simbad, it's a lovely Rose too and has been going for years hasn't it. I'll have some fun trying to squeeze mine in somewhere...:))

How lovely, so many blooms too, sad to hear you lost so many Phormiums, ours survived but look very tatty!!

Couldn't decide which rose to get at the GC Janey but when I spotted Albertine I remember Monty on gardeners world saying what a lovely rose it was :-)
Thanks Carole thats the perfect name for it, I'll think of that every time I look at it now :-)
Thanks DD :-), yes the phormiums were all huge specimens too and all my favourites :-(, I'm trying to be brave enough to replace them all, my yucca survived though unbelievably!!!!! only a small one too.

Our Yucca is still going but also looks tatty....

My yucca was amazing DD never flinched in that winter.
Thankyou Homebird :-)
