wall done

wall done

did more patching yesterday, decided to slap another coat on all over, as the sun was shining, and call it done; probably still patchy, but if I can achieve in fact what I can see in my mind, hardly any of the wall will be visible, anyway!

thanks all. there's still a very few black spots that just won't be covered up, but I'm working on the principle that if I can't see 'em from a foot away ....

Super job Fran....you'll just have to be less of a perfectionist - only a rude person would comment if it wasn't right :)))

Doesn't that look great! White is good for reflecting light everywhere and will show off your little garden to its best advantage. I spent most of yesterday painting pots a nice uniform terracotta colour ready for summer. I got more paint on me and the lawn than I did on the blinking pots.

thanks Scottish. lol this was my very first outside painting, and I wanted it to be as good as I could make it - didn't want a repeat of when I painted the lounge of my previous flat: that had more patches than a tramp's trousers! But maybe I could have been a little less - persistent? It's not as if many are going to see it besides me, and not as if they'd be tactless enough to point it out to me if they did - but hate the thought of people smiling indulgently behind my back!

thanks Gattina. I wanted to reflect as much light back on the plants as I could, from as many different angles as could be managed: it's usually fairly light out there, but there's only about an hour of direct sunlight, as the trees block off most of it - paradoxically, I get less direct sulight in summer than in winter, cos of their foliage.

I actually get more light in the evening, when the sun's on the other side of the block, because the block across the green is faced in some white plastic, which means that I have to have the curtains half-closed (which I hate, blocking out the ligth) or else sit here at the PC with one hand over my eyes.

I did want matt whate, to minimise glare, but my local hardware shop only does "brilliant white" exterior paint. Still, that should make a nice counterpoint for the plants that I want along and on that wall.

lol I have a special painting shirt, you can see what colours I've used by the smears on it! I do tend to "splash it all over" in any and every conceviable occasion - I'm the world's most untidy cook.

A brilliant job Fran looks like a sun trap there !

lol hope so Amy - a bit more of one than black/brown/grey brick that was showing its age!

I posted a pic of the "before", maybe I should put it and the "after" together, to show the difference

thanks Homebird. I've just done the other end as well, so all done now until I can get at the very end, where I've got scrap wood stacked for "might come in handy". Even put go-faster stripes on the steps so I can see where each one ends!
