Rescued dragonfly

Rescued dragonfly

This dragonfly somehow managed to fall into the pond!!! Had she had a drop too much & lost balance??!! :)))
I recued her & found she was still alive so set her on a stone in the sun & she recovered & flew away after about an hour.

Lovely photo Shirl but I must admit the big ones do scare me a bit :o)

Hi Annella,
She was so beautiful & didn't bite otr sting or anything nasty, just clung on to my finger with tiny delicate feet - not even scratchy, so don't be scared of them.
Nice to hear from you
Shirley

I think they are beautiful it's the 6" ones that make me duck Shirl :o))

You must have the touch Shirley. It didn't look at all frightened. I love dragon flies and haven't seen one this year yet.

How lovely. Lucky it fell into your pond :o) Saw lots last year but not a one so far!

Lucky you were there......I didn't realise they get this big!

I think it was too waterlogged to be frightened Rose, it didn't fly away for about an hour after I rescued it. I expect it was just glad to be out on 'dry land' again!!

glad it had a happy ending..lovely delicate markings on those little wings..they look so fragile...

Yes Bloomer, & those wings looked awful when they were sodden!
They are probably stronger than they look. I was so pleased when it flew away.

This picture quite took my breath away. I agree, Bloomer, what beautiful delicate wings. I love Dragonflies. Could it have been laying eggs in your pond when it got into difficulties? I know they lay their eggs just under the waters surface on suitable vegetation.

Taking a bath, lol.

I'm certain it had been laying eggs Waddy. We get dragonflies every year. They whizz about over the pond, finally descending on the mossy stuff & the plants that grow on the edges & you can see them depositing eggs. (can't see the eggs! but you can see the action!)
I have seen the larvae when they crawl up the stems of the plants, then hatch out.
I did manage to catch one emerging one day - marvellous - but you have to be patient, they take quite a long time to come out then dry off. Good to see though.
I can't imagine how it fell in, never seen one distress before!!

How lucky you are that you were able to save it! I found one this year too, he fell off the grill of a truck he had gotten caught in; but I wasn't able to save him. It was so pretty I kept it to mount in a frame.

You are so clever! I wouldn't know where to begin doing something like that!
