Cinnabar Moth Catapillar

They feed on the Senecio family of plants, but especially ragwort. Because they have such a voracious appetite, consuming the entire host plant often, they can become cannibalistic. Numbers of the moth are in decline due to the eradication of ragwort.

There's loads of Ragwort around here but no catapillars on them these days.

I haven't heard of this before Pimms..about them eating the ragwort...but at least the horses won't eat it.so they will be safe...lots of it up here,so it should keep them going for a while ..nice looking creature though :o)

Haven't heard a cuckoo for years around here! Always used to hear the first one, on or around my birthday in April.
Mind you - I expect they don't know when Spring is now, with our weather!!!

Yes, plenty of Ragwort up here in these parts Pimps. Speaking of eating the whole plant....my Rhodanthemums have been consumed. Probably earwigs.

They're brilliant at getting rid of vast amounts of groundsel, so I love 'em! Not much ragworth round here. I didn't know about the cannabalistic bit.

Maybe ill see some of these as there were so many moths in my garden pimp, ill have to check what ragwort is and see if i have any nearby. :-)
