how will I know the difference then,

You need to read the labels very carefully as you want one like this which is 'clump forming and non invasive'. Look at Phyllostachys 'nigra' which has black canes and 'aurea' which has green canes.

Lovely Bamboo,Denise..mine is a clump forming ,non invasive one too..but it's been in a huge pot for years now..I can't recall the variety, but it prefers a bit of shade..much paler green foliage than your black stemmed one..your's will be great in that space :o)

Love this, I was gutted the other week there's a house a few doors down from us he had a fabulous one of these, went past and it was in a skip!!!! along with all the other plants in his border, nearly went down there in the dark to rescue it,lol, such a shame I'd have had it :-(

Thats sad to hear, as the lot would have been taken on free cycle if only they had thought of it.
