19/08/12 My garden. This male Sparrowhawk could hear the Blue Tits in the bush . . so he waited . . but they weren't breaking cover. Eventually he left empty-handed to try his luck elsewhere.

Thank you Katarina, I forgot to put its name in the caption (have done it now!). It's a male Sparrowhawk and is a fairly regular visitor to my and my neighbours gardens.

Great photo! I was sure one landed on my roof the other day but my friend who was visiting at the time thought it was just a pigeon, so maybe I was getting carried away lol ;o)

From the downy feathers I could assume that he's a juvenile?...perched on one foot...was he trying to make the little birds think he was roosting? Really a great shot...
