Grass garden

Janey

By Janey

Grass garden (Festuca glauca (Blue fescue))

Lots of grasses here, a few to be moved out as they are getting too large....the blue Fescues are great all year, and I think I'll get more stripey Carex for winter too.

Thanks girls! I wonder why Hb? I used to think grasses would like dry sunny conditions, but they do like their feet damp, I often hose these down, even with the rain we've had!

I love the urn too. I never thought it would happen, but I am really getting in to grasses in a big way now. The evergreen stripey Carex are great for the winter garden aren't they? and the pennisetums with their feathery plumes. My Uncinia has just started to flower as well...it's lovely to see them coming on so well. The Stipa Gigantea has been the star of the front garden this year! This arrangements looks lovely in your garden.

Thank you Dawn and Carol, I remember your Stipa Karen, it looked beautiful with the same shades of your other plants. Haven't seen the Uncinia yet. I'm going to thin a couple out of here, they need a bit of space round them for best effect. Bought a fabulous Acorus Ogon (similar to the Carex but larger) today it looks like a golden fountain!
I can't make my mind up whether it would be better planted in the ground or would it make it through the winter in a pot do you think?

...lol...I suppose it depends on what the winter throws at us Janey! The good thing about the pot idea though, is you can move it out of trouble if it gets really cold again, and they do look great in pots! I must take a pic of the Uncinia soon...it is looking great just now. The Stipa is huge though. I shall have to do some 'thinning' in the front garden. I'm going to move the Leycesteria 'golden lanterns' in to the back I think...it is too large in its present situation right outside my front window. Trying hard to be patient and wait for it to stop growing...but it's inevitably going to get moved very soon I think....it's bugging me!
