Sempervivum Calcareum Extra

Beautiful and attractive pots too. I have an urge to hold them in my hands! ;-))

I love this planting idea, something I will try nfor next year, it reminds me of Tapestry very attractive;0)

I like the kind of mathematical precision of this Semper. So far it hasn't flowered and spoiled the symetry. I just sent its babies off to Fran so she can have a go at growing them what way she wants them.

I used to have an Urn plant, and i used to nip off the shoots - trying to get babies without the parent suffering. finally managed it, had that for years. Would you be able to grow the babes off these? would you want to?

I have just planted 3 babes in a new blue pot with a fancy edge that I got from QD for £1.69! Fran What a wonderful emporium! Gravel on the top too. They are about an inch across in size with about a one inch rootlet, should take OK. I am not keeping to my silent resolution not to have so many pots. My larger blue pot of less symetrical ones is running alive with babes too.

lol that's an easy resolution to make, and so hard to keep!!

one of the porbs I hadn't anticipated with plants is the increase - at one time I had about fifteen baby Carex, wanted to keep a couple as "spares", eventually managed to give the others away. Will have the same prob with next repotting, I suppose; it was in the biggest tub I had and still filled it. Of course, now I could put it into the ground and let it grow as it wants, but it'd be a bit too low and I'm not sure how far it'd want to spread!

I got to the fifth or sixth generation with the Urn plant, lost count; they got smaller and smaller while still putting out babes - talk about teen parents!!

Some of the babes out of the bigger blue pot are going into the sempervivum and moss sink when their attached stems get long enough. I made the error of putting a splash of tomato fertiliser on them. They said Wow lets party and reproduce! Just got back from Queens hospital eye clinic. No glaucoma for Jack and back of eyes OK but has cataracts starting. Appt for 8/12. So not too bad in all.

I don't think I fed my Urnplants much, apart from some Baby Bio when I remembered. I did wish I could put them on the Pill! I wanted them to save their energy for growing rather than reprouducing - and the babes were weak and have yet weaker offspring.

Good news re Jack. Cataracts they can do something about! Hope appt goes ahead, it's a long enough wait as it is
