Dr Jamain is the rose on the middle pillar, as if there is another colour like it!! this was her second year.
i had an enormous hole dug by the digger as we were building and filled it with good soil, this just filled up with water which never drained in the solid clay in the winter, dug these 3 roses up again , took all the good soil out and replaced it with the rubbish clay soil again, as it was before, and they love it.

Roses do not need a high quality soil, but a lot of sun and free space around to dry quickly after rain. At least my own experience. Very beautiful rose, Rezi.

Now that is something special I really love that picture :o) thank you what a beautiful show of roses I hope to have a show like that one one day. I have clay soil and they do seem to like it ok. I have been disappointed with some of mine but it is only because they are new roses and the ones that have been in for a couple of years are now doing much better so obviously the roots have started to get down and helped them grow some lovely flowers. Just hope for a good display next season. Thanks again for showing me your lovely roses.

Thank you Lori, Oliveoil 'n Katarina. This pic was taken in may 2010 when they had been in (and out) for 3 years.
Will take another one next year to show the difference.
i have a really good framework established now and got the hang of pruning these beauties, so my terrace is dripping with colour and fragrance in May and June, the Pierre Oger in the background is a magnificent repeater, shame about the balling :-(( and never stops all summer till the first frosts, so does Mme. Isaac Pereira in the foreground but slightly less vigorous.
what a bit of shade can do!!
what will you be training your Dr Jamain on, Oliveoil? a tree perhaps?

Mine is not supposed to be a climber so am hoping it doesn't need training it was only supposed to be 3ft in height. lol. I am beginning to wonder if the information was correct on the label now. lol. ah well I shall move it to a more suitable place it obviously doesn't mind being moved as yours is thriving well. Only time will tell. lol. thanks again. :O)

looking through 'helpmefind.com' , i found this lovely reference to S.du dr Jamain, thought it might interest you
''Gardening with Old Roses. Authored by Alan Sinclair, Rosemary Thodey (Nov 1993)''
Page 30: Hybrid Perpetual... rescued from obscurity by Vita Sackville-West, who discovered it growing in an old nursery. A 'sweetly and sentimentally scented' deep wine-red, it demands a little protection from the sun; as only she could put it, 'he burns'.
