I decided to move a hollyhock self seeder to a better place and thought you might like to see the root . Hopefully it will flower next year

Neither did I Hywel it went deeper than this but I snap it off by mistake. I gave it a good soak but its wilted badly in its new home.

It probably would if some of that root snapped off. I should think it will recover though, in time, after it grows more roots ...

I agree...perhaps remove most of the top growth to avoid moisture loss...:>)

Should be okay Shirley after a few days, its amazing what deep roots they have, I agree with Motinot removing a little of the top growth will help, good luck;0)0

I dont think I have ever done it Bibo, the garden magazines have got much better content over the last couple of years and make for interesting reading. Wish the same could be said for the TV ones.
I once staked a fruit tree and the stake grew does that count? lol.

We don't know what the roots usually look like. I didn't realise they had them like that
