You wouldn't if you lived in tropical climes where it can potentially get invasive!
I love it too!

i cant imagine anything like that being invasive ~ shows you what kind of garden and weather i have here!!
nettles grow well ~ i wonder if some exotic country would like to put some of my nettles in their botanical gardens?

It reminds me of Lagos...that and bougainvillea...they were everywhere!

I like this Karen, but overly keen on Bougainvillea..............

It's looking very good! Yes, in the tropics it grows extremely fast. It grows fast here, also. My Allamanda 'Cherries Jubilee' has grown so very quickly with the very hot weather. I actually had to cut it back, already. It's been blooming constantly with many flowers!
Is Bougainvillea not available for sale there?
Bougainvillea is a dime a dozen here in California...so cheap!

ah, i see what you mean!

Bougainvillea is fairly common here Delonix. I trust that Cherries Jubilee is not what you would call a problem yet?
Quite amazing eh Sticki!

it just looks too exotic to be such a prolific climber!

Sticki - it is exotic, growing in exotic conditions! Not one for the garden sadly (or I would be overrun with them)!

definitely wouldnt grow in my garden! although i do have a passionflower on the fence!!

Allamanda 'Cherries Jubilee' is not a problem as far as it's not going to die from cold, yet!
Bougainvillea is grown as an annual there?

Just ordered some Passiflora seeds Sticki. Passiflora vitifolia.
More of a conservatory plant here Delonix...........

ooh the red one!!! that will be interesting! will you grow that indoors?
8 Oct, 2012
It'll need to be undercover for the winter................

lets hope its not a bad one or you will have to buy it a quilt!

Meanie:
You must grow the little shrubby types of Bougainvillea like the variety 'Rosenka'. This is a very common ground cover variety here in California.
8 Oct, 2012
They tend to be the ones that I see around here, although the "climbing" types are common enough online.
8 Oct, 2012
Yes, there's the dwarfs, the shrubby types and the very large climbing types which can grow up a very tall tree.
There's some very interesting varieties I've been seeing around, which I've never seen before. I'll have to get some pics.

Not my favourite thing TBH..............

What's TBH?

To be honest.....................

I guess you haven't seen very large, full-grown and in full-flower Bougainvillea vines or shrubs. They're spectacular! I can't imagine living in a place that doesn't have millions around!
I don't have any large ones (anymore)because of the large thorns.
9 Oct, 2012
I have many times, but they still leave me cold.
9 Oct, 2012
Wow! I love them...just not in my yard. lol!

I really like this so beauiful.
