Thanks all, hoping the frost does not take them....

It's always a worry with Fatsias....you just get them going about August here, and then before you know it, the frost has flattened them!

Mine always look a mess early in the year but I love them when they get going again. Never seen the flowers before.

Annella both Fatsias now have huge fat buds just waiting for the frost lol

Does it self seed there?

Delonix it never has in ten years......

That's surprising. When I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, I would see it self-seed all the time. Tetrapanax papyrifer (Rice paper plant) would self-seed...among all the runners under the plant, also. These two plants look so similar. Except, Rice paper plant becomes a tree to 25ft (7.6m) or taller...and Fatsia japonica grows to 15ft (4.6m) or so high.

I am growing the Tetrapanax papyrifer but it is inside at the moment, it is still a baby and not old enough to stand a winter yet, it will grow enormous here, really looking forward to seeing it next year, the Fatsia can grow to 15 ft here in the UK given the right conditions......

There's another plant which grows to 30ft (10m) tall and looks very similar. It's Travesia palmata or Snowflake tree.
I think it may be too tropical for your climate, though. It most likely makes a good house plant.

I have just looked it up, it is too tender to keep outside unfortunately....

I figured it would be. It's native to Southeast Asia down to Vietnam. It grows well along Coastal California. Although, it grows tallest and largest here in Southern California.
