Yule shimmer

Took me agaes to get this: every time I got the camera the sun went in, as soon as I put the camera down the sun came out again!

Still,not bad for "midwinter"

Shiny :o)

I should have tied them a bit less snugly, then they'd have had room to twist and shimmer more. Of course, a vid would show that better than a still. ah well. I'll know for next time I build a fence!

Nevertheless it looks pretty :o)))

Festive looking.
We hang these in our cherry trees in summer to keep the robins out :-)

sounds a good idea! I was thinking of making strings of them for mobiles, just nowhere to hang 'em from.

Multifunctional balcony decoration. Does it play, Fran? :))

lol wouldn't think so! most of these discs are backup pc files; rest would, being RNIB talking magazines. If I had an inset space, ie had a roof over, would be a lot easier to hang things from. but then, i'd have to wtaer everyrhing myself rather than letting nature do most of the work

I'm deeply impressed with your artistry and energy, Fran, and I think it's really beautiful!

I love that Fran. I usually use my old unwanted discs as coasters, but I shall try this I think when I get enough!!

lol Shirly, it doesn't take long to accumulate a stack - well, it doesn't take me long, anyway. I get regular updates from RNIB on CD, and I have stacks of duff dsics where my burning music or vid didn't work - and backup discs aplenty that are no longer needed now.

I'd like to make shaped mobiles, ie cut discs into pieces and hang them, prob is to cut them in set shapes rather than in abstract chunks - I've only got a pair of "cut anything" scissors - they do, but it's getting angles.

Maybe i need a bandsaw or something - if i can find one safe enough to be used by a visually impaired techno-dodo.

Not sure what cuts discs - I reckon you know better than me Fran! What about pinking shears? Or are they too thick?

I've got a pair of cut-anything scissors,a nd they do cut, but only in straight lines, i can't do corners or curves. and because the blades are so thick, there's probs getting towards the centre of the disc.

Can only hope someone happens across this pic and these comments who can answer "how do I cut curves into a CD?"

I did have the idea of cutting two discs to the centre and slotting them together to make a ball, but i'd need to cut slots to allow for hte thickness of the other disc.
