Wonderful shape and colour !

I have this one on my short list Terra. The nursery on the Island has it and I do have a perfect spot for it. Hopefully it will survive in our wet climate.

Let's hope it copes with the wet ... very pretty !

This is a very common large shrub here in San Diego. It's however, not Albizia julibrissin. It's Calliandra haematocephala. I have many photos on GoY of this one and many other species.

I can almost bet there's many Calliandra surinamensis growing there, also...just like here in San Diego.

Ha. That shows you how much I know about sub-tropical plants. Thanks for identifying it for me.
Between you and Hywel.... I'll be much smarter.
I might have some more that I see and do not know what they are.
Lesson #2 what is the differece between these two. They look very similar, no?

Never mind , I googled and see the difference now.
Thank you for correcting me.

Albizia julibrissin becomes a very large tree. There's many here. Do they grow where you live?

Even though, Calliandra haematocephala can become a big tree, it still doesn't reach the large, wide-canopied tree proportions like A julibrissin.

Actually, Calliandra haematocephala and surinamensis are very tropical trees/shrubs which are native to the equatorial tropics. They just have adapted well to subtropical climates. :>)

I did see Albizia julibrissin in the garden centres on Vancouver Island Delonix and it is on my list to buy when we get home. But I do not think they are widely grown and probably will not survive our wet climate.

Albizia julibrissin is tougher than you think. It's really hardy and will tolerate quite a wet soil. It's goes dormant in winter.

Good to know Delonix. Thank you

You're welcome. It's hardy to -20.5 °C (-5 °F).
