polly, i'm glad u like it , we didn't want a formal garden, this cottage style seems to have worked , still waiting for some shrubs to fill out , but that's the beauty of gardening.................steve

Very secluded. I love a pathway through a garden. What is the stone building in the background?

hi pink floyd, the roof line you see is of a bungalow, which is the other side of the brick wall at the rear of the garden.this brick wall is the original garden wall of a large georgian mansion.this old house has been converted into apartments and the land surrounding it has been built on.not overlooked from the back or left , but there is planning permission for a house to the right of my rear garden, so i am going to replace the old 6' fence with a 8' fence and trellis combined , in the spring..............steve

That is so cool Steve. I nknew there was some significance to the wall. It looked old that is why I asked. That really adds to the garden. Good luck on your eight footer. The makes a nice private.

thanks pink floyd, ther is also a pic of the veg plot . the wall in this shot is the left hand boundry of our garden, and this was the original outhouses (toilets) for the cottages in the lane and is 18th centuary.the cottages now have indoor bathrooms but i am glad the old buildings still stand, it's a bit of history..................steve

Very interesting piece of history you have right in your next to your own back garden. I wish that old buildings could remain. Land owners think only of money when a piece of history stands in the way.

What a beautiful garden. When I read "the Secret Garden" at school, this is how I imagined it to be. I hope to be able to advance to growing vegetables when I get a green house. Going to plant a herb garden to be going on with.

Hi Steve....Sorry to read about your delphs... I've learned that delphs grow well over here as they like coolness... they just stop in their tracks when the humidity starts...and resume in October for a second blossoming! They like clay soils too apparently...cool/cold and wet...maybe you will have better luck this season with them considering the winter you've had...?

That is SO inviting! Lovely!

Shame about the delphiniums ... though a three years ago, so hopefully you have put more in since then. The garden looks lovely.
