Thanks TT , Slad it's always a battle in our garden with the birds and Squirrels , we are constantly mending torn holes where they have been determined to get in after the fruit , we have already been rescuing birds from the Blueberry nets and they are still in flower !

Thanks Angela I'm hoping for a good crop , I will Dawn thanks , I hope your toms are better this year we have had a couple of bad years haven't we ? we bought a melon plant at the weekend it looked a good healthy one but it's already drooping and looks sick ! we had a couple of squirrels out front this morning feeding from the bird feeders they are getting so cheeky they totally ignore us when we shout :o(

Naughty squirrels. Not seen any here for a bit.,they are gud to, me in some ways as they set hazel nuts & acorns so, I have young plants dotted around for future firewood. Hope the melons pick up, we need sun! Same for the toms, going to ave a few days of cool tenps., but hopefully frost free.

We have Hazel nut and walnut trees planted by the squirrels .. I think the Melons are beyond help Dawn I wonder if they had recently been transplanted they do that sometimes then the roots haven't had a chance to mature , I'll look out for some more !

It looks perfect.

I dont think my walnut will ever have nuts. Had it 11 years now. The tulip tree hasnt flowered yet either. Probs that's the case with the melon then :(
23 May, 2013
Hi, dawnsaunt. Did you grow your walnut from the nut or does it come from southern countries like for instance Italy? It could explain that it doesn t have nuts.
24 May, 2013
Hi Katarina. We bought the tree from a commercial nursery in Northamptonshire when we purchased our woodland trees. It was probably about 4 feet high at the time and now about 10 feet after 10 years or so. Any ideas.

Janey they sit on the fence clutching strawberries in their little hands after ripping the protective netting to shreds with a big grin on their faces ,dribbling juice down their fronts ! :o))
26 May, 2013
Oh Amy, sorry, but have to laugh of the image conjured up of the squirrels scoffing your precious strawberries. So naughty.

Their days are numbered Dawn ,we have plans !!
28 May, 2013
HomeB we have masses of the little monsters all sitting on the fence and spying from the trees waiting for anything that looks remotely eatable :o( we can't fill the bird feeders quick enough for them they are costing is a fortune ,they were sitting under the trees the other day nibbling on nuts which had fallen from the bird station I walked out within 6ft of them to take a photo they didn't even move ! they eat all our cobnuts ,yes they do plant them they also plant Walnuts but I haven't the room to keep them ....

Sounds like you have an infestation of them Amy. A couple rang through our trees the other day, I thought my neighbour had 'thinned them out' as not seen any for a bit. If they stayed in the trees, that would be fine.
