Strawberries .. November !

Mine are still flowering and fruiting too, they are the minature ones you sent me a cutting of, they are all over the garden now really pleased with them;0)

Its been an amazing year for everything , hasn't it ?
The apples have been abundant , and there are still French beans to be picked .
They are so healthy , Amy , it's a shame they won't ripen .

Brilliant Amy. I guess the squirells are more interested in them when red and busynnutting at the moment.

I'm pleased to hear your little miniatures plants have grown well and spread for you Carole ,you will be pulling them up before you know it ! yes Julia it is a shame I don't think for one moment they will ever ripen ..
The squirrels had the cob nuts ages ago Dawn there's a big Walnut tree up the road I'm sure that's keeping them busy ,I have a small Walnut tree growing in a pot it's from a nut the squirrels buried in our garden before our tree died ..

Hi Amy. i bought a cob nut tree a couple of years ago after seeing yours. It had one nut this year. Spotted it one day, gone the next lol. Remember your bumper crop that your grandaughter also enjoyed.

At least the squirrels did you one fabour by setting the walnut. Lol.

Was thinking Amy, did the honey fungus stay away?

Would they ripen in a greenhouse, Amy? Just thinking that homegrown strawberries and cream would be lovely in November :)

I think they might shrivel up as soon as they were picked Gill I might cover them with a glass cloche if we have any sunshine they might ripen off :o)
We still have Fungus Dawn but not being experts we don't know what some of them are the good news is we haven't had anymore trees / shrubs die off like the Walnut !

We had a walnut tree, but it got rather large so we took it out, we have a baby one from the original tree, about 5 ft in a pot, I did not realise they were susceptible to the dreaded honey fungus, the RHS has lots of info re the trees and shrubs that are resistant to this disease..

I have a baby from my original one in a pot about 3ft but am not sure about planting it in our garden because of the size it will become, we can't put it where the other one was because of the disease , the other one died very quickly the bark started peeling round the base then when you lifted the bark you could see black 'boot laces ' under the bark ,there was also a lot of fungi growing round the base .. :o(

Lets hope the honey fungus is gone then Amy, if no more shrub loss, fingers crossed, the nasty fungi has gone.

I hope so Dawn It's frightening you wonder if it's going to go through the whole garden it did kill a Lilac which was growing next to the Walnut , I believe the only thing that stopped it spreading was the fact that the previous owners had planted the tree in a square of soil with several yards of concrete surrounding it which they had used as a dog run ....

Hi Amy, thankfully the concrete saved the day then. Nasty stuff that honey fungus, shame you lost the walnut tree and lilac, lets hope its now gone.
