Hellebore.

Speckled helebore; a few years ago, I pollinated this variety with a yellow form; most of the resulting seedlings have crimson speckles, on a cream background.

Thanks Thrup, the "hybrid" have been flowering for a few years now, but flowers haven't opened yet; when they do, I shall put up a photo.

That is a very pretty Hellebore, I don't see the speckled varieties very often here.

Thanks RK, if you want to try your hand at making hybrids, Hellebores are a good plant to start with; insects do it all the time! Choose a few with interesting colours; flower form, (single-double) - one feature it would be good to to introduce is flowers that "hold their head up" - many have pretty flowers, but hang their heads down like a shy maiden! If you look after them in pots as they grow, you could get flowers in 3 - 4 years.

Even if you don't produce show-stoppers, the process is fun, and you have lots of plants to grow on, or give away.

I do have at least one variety that flowers facing up and to me that is the most desirable trait a hellebore can have! The one I have is 'Pink Frost' and I also like the foliage on that one. I'll have to experiment with that, it is fun to see what kind of results you can get!

I have just Googled H. Pink Frost; it's a stunner! I must get one, I love not only the colour, but the upright shape, and the foliage form and colour; it would I feel, make a good seed-parent, to be crossed with a deep red flowered plant, to produce a deeper pink?

If you have photo of your plant, you could post it on GoY,
Hellebores are very popular in the UK, and I'm sure other members will be interested.
