What a lovely Woodpecker,Lori...and Fran,I have tried those a couple of times, and they never get eaten by any of the birds that visit..

Thanks Fran and Bloomer: suet is a cold weather food. Fat in any guise is welcomed by the little birds when it's very cold. I have filled the feeder to the top twice already. The Bluejays have returned and the deer have visited also. I've seen their tracks but they are shy of people. It's been very clear and cold at night and the moonlight is like the light of day! The deer and squirrels like sunflower seed as much as the chickadees, nuthatches, woodpeckers and bluejays, but they tend to visit in the wee hours when all is quiet.

I have two types of suet bars, fruit and seeds, and mealorm. tried one of each when i first got them, but no way to mark whcih feeder had what - one gor stolen by squirrels, cage and all, and one just sat there and went mouldy.
i put out a fruit bar the other day, will see how that goes, if it does, and some plain suet balls - now's the time of year when that kind of food should be coming out, gives the birds a chance to check it out before winter really sets in - as much as it does round here.
your moons sound amazing! do you get many chances to take pics?

I think my local birds are getting too choosy - I've had a slab of suet with fruit up for months and it's hardly been touched. probably won't be now cos it's gone black!
But never got any birds as pretty as yours
