Red Cedar and Spruce

my only decoration (exterior) will be a white floodlight under the cedar.

Aha! :)))) I'm not doing any outdoor decorations this year Lori. And I've cut back on the indoor ones too. It's not that I'm miserable or anything, its just I'm fed up with all the hard work taking it all down again, and as we're going away in January, it seems a bit of a waste of time. So, it's a Christmas tree here this year, and that's our lot! Could be the start of something new as I have gone to town on decorations ever since the children were born. Time for a change now they are all grown up....a little break. You never know, I might have grandchildren one day, and then it will all start up again no doubt! ;)

We had only a tiny tree that we found beside our road because the snow was so deep last Christmas! the year before we had no tree at all!...ironic with all the forest all around us. At the time I was thinking that it was best to leave them in their element. I still think that way to an extent. The floodlight is an attempt to add some "light" to the season without doing any damage with lights. (heat and twig breakage)
We have had only grownup Christmases lately...and I must say that little ones really make the season for me. Some day, I hope.

:) I even bought a plastic tree which can be used every year rather than killing a tree. I know they are farmed, but it doesn't seem right. The farmers could be growing food on their land, or grazing animals.

I have to agree. This area has been logged, so many land owners opted to put in pines. They grow in straight rows, file on file...and it's a joy to walk beneath them as they grow very straight and tall; the carpet of needles underfoot is sweet smelling...wind whispers thro the tree tops and it's a magical experience. When they reach 40-50 ft. in height they are harvested for power line poles... or used in making log houses. It's a different type of tree farming from the disposable little Christmas trees... they use Scotch Pine because it grows fast.. a harvest in less than 10 years. It used to bother me when we lived in the city, because after the New Year the streets were lined with discarded trees. One year I collected a couple and put them in the backyard for the birds to shelter in.

noble plants, they're decoration enough. a simple light will enhance them without taking anything away.

i get a bit cross with "colour changing" this-es and that-s; plain and simple is usually the best option.

will you be able to get a pic of them in the light when it's up?

Hopefully, yes. I saw some on sale but they didn't have a clear white one...only red, green, and blue. Will have to buy my own bulb!

wouldn't be so bad if you could select the colour and have it stay that colour, instead of constantly changing ... cool blue might be nice, if one could get it
