The Green Man

The Green Man

This is me doing the 'Ragwort Fertility Dance'.
No I wasn't, I was just caught having a mad moment in a meadow at the nature reserve where I volunteer.
Just thought I'd explain the story behind the photo I chose as my new avatar.

I think it is great and shows your fun side, I shouldn't wish my life away I know, but I'm so looking forward to warm country walks again without having to rap up in a load of jumpers and coats.

..I wondered what that was all about as your Avatar,Mark. Now why doesn't that surprise me? A leaping man, dancing with Ragwort...:o) At least you would be helping to protect a Horse,if one ever got into the Meadow..:o)

That's fantastic. It is just pure JOY! Sums up the spirit of a gardener I think! Wonderful! :))

A great photo and makes you smile , we have more Ragwort that needs pulling up in Norfolk if you would like to come down this way MW :o)

Thanks for your lovely comments :-)
The reserve is run by a small charitable trust - no paid staff, all volunteers. We cut and bale the wildflower meadows and sell it on to stables and horse owners to create a small income, so the Ragwort and Thistles have to be removed and are pulled by hand. Tiring work but we always have a laugh.
Thanks for the offer Amy, but I'll pass on that one! :-))

I wondered about your avatar too but just presumed you'd 'lost your rag (wort)' :)

Full of energy , Muddy . A lovely picture , a bit like a Morris dance .
That old ragwort is a pest ( the polite term) isn't it ?
We help to clear our common each year , but it doesn't seem to diminish it any !
There are mixed ideas on how best to put paid to it once and for all . I don't think it is possible really .

Lol Gill!
You're right there Driad, there must be millions of seeds lying dormant in the soil. We leave them to flower in the woodland glades because they attract a lot of insects, Butterflies and Moths, but pull them before the seed sets.

Great photo, know what you mean about the Ragwort though. When we had our little smallholding I used to dig the Ragwort out because it can kill the animals, more so if they eat it when it's dried. I think it damages the liver, but really am not 100% sure about that.
